Historical silver medal in track cycling for :POR !!!! Giant Iuri!!! So proud of this guy!

Honest question: when Benjamin Thomas fell and got back to the race, did he had to run extra laps to catch up with the rest or does the rules say that you come back and are automatically at the same place as the rest of the gang?

You are allowed I think 5 laps free.

This is because the rules give a rider who has fallen five laps to rejoin the peloton without incurring penalties.

No, that would absolutely be a bad idea. They should try to only have events where the riders directly compete against each other, so no team sprint/pursuit. Most federations are run by complete retards that don’t even try to make their sport as watchable/easy to follow as possible. Almost makes you wish that those sports get thrown out of the Olympics.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Track cycling, like bob/luge/skeleton/canoeing, should force all athletes to use the same material. In the end the results don’t really tell us much about who is the best in a certain event, which kind of is the exact opposite of what sport should be.

It is also interesting the evolution of track cycling in Portugal.

The sport was pretty much inexistent until they decided to build a national velodrome about 15 years ago or so, and even though the result has not been incredible good (only iuri so far), there are now much more kids and youngsters cycling indoors than before :d

I would hope such a medal on a country that has so few that we all know our medalist names (it’s not that difficult when it’s just two per year haha) will increase the interest in track cycling, but it’s difficult in a football-centered country: yesterday I checked Portuguese tv, they did showed the news but spent much of the night talking about possible transfers of Portuguese football clubs….

Yep, the track cycling programme has lots of room to improve. You know, like this nonsense omnium format, like the individual pursuit that just should never have been taken out. Other sports and stuff are added left and right and things like track cycling get their programmes undressed bit by bit.
