Wrestling UWW World Olympic Qualifier 2024

Recommended Posts

first, UWW is terrible in organizing, we are supposed to be in middle of men's semifinals by now. but yet women's BB matches are not started yet.

we had something like 40 wrestlers in each weights, obviously it could take toooo long. it could be a 5-6 days tournament.

anyway

Chamizo had couple of very narrow wins but he lost when he was clearly better. Valiev is obviously in a bad shape physically, he knew he can't compete with Chamizo for 6 minutes. so he ran and ran and attacked only couple of times when he had to. that's surprising someone as experienced as Chamizo falling in his trap. I think he will get another chance in repechage but still he has to win 3 matches tomorrow. not sure if his body can manage that.

65kg QF was a clear robbery, but I think it's easy to steal something from PRK, they can't protest. Dudaev (ALB) didn't dseserve those late 2 pts at all. but looks like Albania is the new friend of UWW, so their mercenary Russians are getting favorable calls. Valiev also got some today.

the biggest loser of the day was Baran (POL) he was easily leading the Venezuelan 2-0 but then just lost his focus in a second and lost it 2-2. he is not going to get a 2nd chance IMO.

Someone wrote here that this Albanian from Russia shouldn't even start here, they had to pay someone. Well, we're just losers. We were cheated once in Baku, and now Albania is laughing at us.

I think that for the first time since Paris 1924, Italy will not have anyone in wrestling. What disaster

On the other hand, judo belongs to the same federation, and we will send 11-12 people there. In my opinion, more money went to judo, not wrestling. Nothing is happening in our wrestling and we can't even bring 2-3 people from the Caucasus to our place like others.

I have doubts whether Albano-Rus will win in the final with such physical form. And that eliminates Chamizo.

:AZE Stadnik keeps her hopes alive for an Olympic ticket after winning one of the bronze medals in women’s 50kg.

She have a great chances against Liuzzi. I saw the BMM and there is an huge difference between her and the Italian.

he is a snake, I think he will find a way :d

Rassadin is also Russian. didn't shine today just stole couple of narrow wins. I mean in Russian standards, Valiev is a B level wrestler while Rassadin is C/D. Valiev clearly has the upper hand but these guys know each other very well, anything can happen

For the quota in women’s 50kg, it’ll be :AZE v. :ITA

The only hope is that Standik will not physically survive. But for Liuzzi, it's a good performance. However, he won't go to Paris unless a miracle happens :(

The women's team here surprised me positively but unfortunately we do not have a people of this class to realistically think about Paris. Here, only Chamizo had such a chance.

    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.

    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
