What's more, Taylah Preston, who is "Yastremska's twin", made some problems with Eli Svitolina , but our star handled them with a double 6-2. Really impressive from Yastremska, especially since she struggled in all three of her qualifying matches, including against our own Valentini Grammatikopoulou (6-4 3-6 6-4) Josh and Illya 1

rafalgorka 1,386 Posted January 15 #104 Share Posted January 15 Magda Fręch fighting hard vs Saville. Winner plays Osaka or Garcia here. But level of the game is rather low. Many unforced errors

Josh 5,749 Posted January 15 #106 Share Posted January 15 (edited) Meanwhile, Denis Shapovalov records yet another bad result, losing in straight sets (6-3, 7-5, 7-5) to Jakub Mensik (a random player I’ve never even heard of before) So painful being a fan of him (and other Canadian tennis players in general) he’s always losing (and dropping sets) against lower ranked opponents, and he rarely goes far in tournaments anymore. At least we have Leylah Fernandez and Gaby Dabrowski (who is also partnered up with a honorary Canadian representing New Zealand in Erin Routliffe) Edited January 15 by Josh
Josh 5,749 Posted January 15 #107 Share Posted January 15 (edited) Milos Raonic takes the first set 7-6 (6) over home-favorite Alex De Minaur! Still a long way to go, but early on looking like it’ll go to 5 (and probably all tiebreaks) Edited January 15 by Josh
Josh 5,749 Posted January 15 #108 Share Posted January 15 Down 3-5 and facing 3 SPs, Raonic had a chance to break to get back on serve but unfortunately couldn’t convert. De Minaur takes the second set 6-3.
Josh 5,749 Posted January 15 #109 Share Posted January 15 (edited) Raonic retires at 0-2 15-30 in set three, due to a hip flexor issue. Kind of inevitable after the MTO late in that first set. Praying for a successful recovery, and hopefully he can get back to his best soon. Edited January 15 by Josh
Gianlu33 3,577 Posted January 15 #110 Share Posted January 15 Osaka is on the right track to come back; unfortunately, she made too many mistakes. She deserved at least to compete in the third set. Illya
