Artistic Gymnastics FIG World Cup 2024

Recommended Posts

Cairo marks a return to competition for :GBR Joe Fraser after sitting out 2023 with injury and illness.

So far:

Floor - 11.833

Pommel - 14.666

Floor score is pretty poor but that's a decent pommel routine.

He'll be on the horizontal bar tomorrow.

Dipa Karmakar :IND is back in international competition after a lengthy spell out with ACL injuries. Having finished 4th in Rio in Vault , she couldn’t even qualify for Tokyo due to injuries.

With a fantastic score of 13.449 she has qualified for the Vault final in 3rd position. Hopefully she can add good points here in Cairo.

4 world cup events will take place between now & April.
Cairo, Cottbus, Baku & Doha

3 best scores out of 4 will be calculated & at the end of the series the 2 highest place eligible athletes will secure a quota place for each apparatus.
Restriction of 1 NoC per apparatus & no more than 3 athletes per NoC across all apparatus applies.
1st place gives you 30 points , 2nd - 25 points & 3rd 20 points. Points are awarded till 16th place.

    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.
    • Mary Rand has died aged 86. The first British woman to win a Gold in track and field at the 1964 Tokyo Games (where she also took home a further two medals in the Women’s 4x100m relay and Pentathlon).
    • Athing Mu competed in the USA trials in 2024 and 2025 post the 2023 rule changes. She also won Gold in 2022 and Bronze in 2023.    Jelimo the jury is out. She doesn’t look male like the other two do.
    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
    • badminton queen Carolina Marin announced that she can't take part into the home Europeans in the upcoming weeks because of her injured knee and calls it a career 😭
    • yes, there are (or there was, at least) don't forget that the women's 800m had world and olympic champions like Semenya, Jelimo and Nyonsaba...basically, it was 10 years of DSD winners only the same Athing Mu was suspected to be DSD (never confirmed, but somehow she totally disappeared after Tokyo) then, there were the 2 girls from Namibia (1 won a medal over 200m in Tokyo) in Italy we have the living scandal Valentina Petrillo (a paralympian!!!), who's actually a real man not to mention the weightlifter from who took part into the Tokyo Games so, it's a real problem all around the globe, not just a US crusade against a few woke idiots
