Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026 Tickets, Trips and Experiences Road to Milano Cortina 2026

Well, decided (without much advance planning) to attend my first Olympics - and to do my first trip to Europe. Only going for a few days, and got five tickets - women's ice hockey finals (A), short track women's 1500m QF/SF/F and men's 5000m relay finals (A), Aerials mixed team (A), women's ski half pipe finals (B) and women's curling finals (A).

Somewhat regretting my women's curling finals ticket because getting from Livigno Saturday night to Cortina Sunday morning looks to be a massive pain in the butt, but I think I found an itinerary that minimizes the suck. Unfortunately I don't think there is a practical way for me to do my Milan -> Livigno -> Cortina -> Venice itinerary without having a rental car from when I leave Milan.

Flying SEA -> JFK -> MXP on the way there and VCE -> FCO -> FRA -> SEA on the way back (with an overnight layover in FCO, figured it wasn't any more expensive to get a hotel room there than anywhere close to Cortina).

actually, there's no practical way to go from Livigno to Cortina at all

the quickest trip is a 4.5 hour drive through the mountains (with a short excursion in Switzerland), which might also be impossible during the Winter months because of the roads blocked by the snow (even if in the last few years this problem has been more thoretical than real)

this is one of the most controversial issues of this kind of well spread Olympics: unless you can rent an helicopter (which is what the IOC officials would get come the Games), the Valtellina cluster is just a world apart from the rest of the mountain venues (and even from Milan, tbh...it's still a 3.5 hour train + 1 hour bus trip to go to Livigno from here, despite on paper it's only 155kms/less than 100 miles far away)

This is where me being both Canadian and American comes in - I don’t consider that that kind of travel time impractical :P

Admittedly I’m not keen on driving through mountain passes at night. Hard to make a real plan until the train timetables are released for the games. The main assumption I’m making that might screw me is that I’ll be able to make it back to Milan Central station from Livigno on Saturday night (using a combination of the Olympics specific shuttle bus to Tirano station and trains). If that’s doable then it’s just a matter of getting to VCE early the next morning and there is an easy shuttle to and from Cortina (that stops at the Curling venue). And getting to Venice is something I can do by rental car if the train schedule doesn’t work.

Of course weather might mess up those plans, and if that’s the case spending an extra day in Milan and/or a day in Venice isn’t the end of the world.

Similar thing with my somewhat risky flight from VCE to FCO, if I miss it I’ll have more than enough time to make it to Rome, it will just be very inconvenient.

Probably not helped by Livigno just being a massive pain in the ass in general in terms of 'reachability' (and the people there being convinced Livigno is the only place in the world that matters, but that's another thing entirely :p).

that might be a problem...but of course I don't know if during the Olympics they will organize a special schedule with night travels :mumble:

it might well happen...and in that case a (very) early morning shuttle bus from Milano to Cortina is surely available* (there are always in Winter weekends, for those who want to spend a couple of days on the snow)

*provided it's booked well in advance

is this the right place to ask how on earth do you get to cortina d'ampezzo without having to drive? Are they building a train station there at all? wanting to book tickets for curling but it looks like too much effort if im honest

They do give advice on reaching all different venues. For Cortina is states:

Public transport

To reach the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium, you can take a train to either Dobbiaco/Toblach or Ponte nelle Alpi stations, where a dedicated shuttle service will be available to transport you to Cortina.

  • 1 month later...
  • 2 months later...

We booked our appartments today, one for myself, Bruna (who will of course only stay a few days, until she goes to the Olympic village if all goes well) and her parents, one of my dad and my sister and by a stroke of luck, in the same building :cheer:

Location looks to be amazing, in a nice little town, Tramin, which is quite literally the birthplace of the Gewürztraminer grape/wine and has a ton of wine shops and producers and such, that's gonna be a three week long tasting :d

Hi Friends, all ok?

Three friends and I are heading to the Milano Games, and we’re having some trouble planning our itinerary. We’re going mainly to watch Lucas Braathen (Alpine Skiing in Bormio), Nicole Silveira (Skeleton in Cortina), and Curling (also in Cortina).

We’re a bit confused especially when it comes to transportation, particularly between Cortina and Bormio.

Would anyone here be able to help us out? We’d also be happy to continue the conversation via WhatsApp if that’s easier.

Thank you so much in advance! 🙏

You should also get some tickets for women's cross-country skiing, so you can cheer on fellow Totallympian @brunamoura (assuming she'll qualify, which for now is quite likely) :d

I think Cortina and Bormio both have certain train stations from where a shuttle bus will leave, I'll see if I can find that page somewhere.

Edit: This page:

All the info for the Venues of Milano Cortina 2026

For Bormio, you can take a train to Tirano, for Cortina Dobbiaco or Ponte nelle Alpi. Keeping in mind all of those places will also have a German name, like Dobbiaco = Toblach, so keep an eye out for that :p

    • By the way. It looks like no AIN`s will be in biathlon by the start of the Olympics. Russians filed an appeal to CAS to get AIN statuses in biathlon. But IBU did not agree to have hearings with short procedure. So the decisons are not expected before the end of qulifying period. (FIS could do the same but its top-officials prefer to help russians be back as quick as possible).   I would like to see Dolidovich at the Games. Because she is a real refugee of the relatively high level.

    • It’s honestly baffling how bad she was in 2018. Just absolutely lost her head. Real shame too because she is so gifted. I do hope Li Jianrou sends her a Christmas card every year tho, she was absolutely gifted a gold medal by Christie in 2014.
