Hello everybody,

I am new to this forum - I am a huge fan of the Olympic Games and Eurovision as well. I had been to London and Rio in 2012 and 2016 - furthermore I had been to Düsseldorf 2011, Malmö 2013, København 2014, Wien 2015, Stockholm 2016 and Lisboa 2018. I follow Eurovision since 1976 closely and the Olympics since Sarajevo 1984.

I cross my fingers for the following six songs/countries to qualify from semi 1:

:CRO Hrvatska, :IRL Ireland/Eire, :LTU Lietuva, :LUX Luxembourg,  :POL Polska, :SLO Slovenija

I cross my fingers for the following two songs/countries to qualify from semi 2:

:NED Nederlanden, :SUI Schweiz/Suisse/Svizzera

My favourite TOP TEN this year:

:FRA France, :CRO Hrvatska, :IRL Ireland/Eire, :ITA Italia, :LTU Lietuva, :LUX Luxembourg,  :NED Nederlanden, :POL Polska, :SUI Schweiz/Suisse/Svizzera, :SLO Slovenija

After first rehearsals of both semifinals I think that those countries will qualify

I avoid to watch the rehearsals this year - I want to have the "fresh" impression of the staging/singing during the shows like it was back in the "old" times...

My ranking is based on the studio versions - I didn't even watch the videos...

Watched the rehearsal clips, so time for updated observations.

Still standing, that if either :ITA Italia or :CRO Croatia doesn't win, it will be preposterous (something quite usual for Eurovision in a sad tradition).

:UKR Ukraine exploded with the best staging and from a top 10 song rose to a top 3 position. Unfortunately they already gifted them 2 undeserved wins with mediocre songs, so this time, when they actually have a song, that is worthy to be a winner, someone else should win...

Countries with the biggest improvements with the staging:

- :GEO Georgia and :ARM Armenia - two songs, which i won't add for repeat listening, but they will be great for an arena performance. Much better, than expected, so hopefully they will do good.

- :GRE Greece - I commemorate our neighbors for going with a traditional Greek sound, but i just dislike the song, a lot.. Which is a shame, cause Marina seems an awesome person and the staging accompanies the song perfectly. I just wished they went with a different song, ughhh...

- :IRL Ireland - the crazy song. The visuals will carry it from a non-qualifier to the final, but meh for me.

Songs, which i already like and nothing changed -> :AUT Austria, :CYP Cyprus, :LTU Lithuania. Safe staging for all 3 of them.

Some other countries:

:FRA France - initially i was like "not another French ballad", but the guy is just such a good singer. Probably the best singer of the whole contest. Don't see many fan votes for him, but the juries will carry him to the top half i reckon.

:GER Germany - not great at all, but won't deserve their usual last place this time. The staging doesn't stand out, so i'm afraid another 0 pointer is coming. Sadly for them, they have taken :GBR UK's spot as the "not taken seriously participant every year", so they will need something unique to get out of the hole. Speaking of the :GBR UK, well, i think it's better not to say anything about the UK at all....

:ISR Israel - not as good as Noa Kirel, but a decent song for Eurovision level. However, given their worldwide position currently, i wonder how much backlash it will receive. Not by the juries of course, but from the fans. And the semifinals are only fan votes, so interesting to see, if it could be a shocking non-qualifier. Probably not.

And of course, i still vividly hate :NED Netherlands and :SUI Switzerland.

I'm a big fan of Eurovision. But I hate the Dutch entry this year. My personale favorites are :BEL and :CRO

My personal favourite by far is Switzerland this year - its a fabulous musical composition to my ears anyway!

Looking forward to the shows, lots of good entries this year and it is genuinely wide open (between 4 in my book at least)

:NED:ITA:SUI are still my favorites. :ARM:GRE:NOR are close behind as well.

:FRA might be my biggest mover after rehersal clips.

Expecting an interesting and fun week as always.

I would want to see one of :CRO:GRE:ITA and :BEL to win. :IRL for me is the biggest improvment after rehearsals. I do like also :SUI song very much but staging is awful, while :BEL live vocal is very weak. Let see what happen in next days. Tomorrow will be dress rehearsal so called "jury show" for first semifinal.

Btw. Today, at "opening ceremony" called Turquoise Carpet the :ISR delegation was absent....

For my understanding they are letting eden go outside the hotel only for rehearsals and for the live show for security reasons

    • Half of those things, if not more, are simply stories though. One may believe them or not, fine, but those aren't really reasons to claim a land. That way anyone can claim it if they have some old story that says so, and we end up in exactly the same situation.
    • But actually we can, going back to the crusades, to the Jewish exile from the land of Israel.    To Moses who walked the sinai desert for 40 years to get into israel.   To all the stories in the Bible about israel.  And even Jesus who was born a jew in Bethlehem and lived in Nazareth.  All places you can see to date.   The only way you would argue that there is no historic proof that israel is out land is if you are simply and atheist and dont believe anything in the Bible.
    • And before the Turkish empire it was another. And before that yet another. And yet another. And yet another. Always a good illustration of the never-ending killing of each other in especially that region. "The god in my stories is better, so we need to kill you and everyone around you" often being a central theme.     In short, nobody 'deserves' to be there (or anywhere in the world, for that matter) and definitely nobody right now can genuinely claim the land on historical grounds or anything (which apparently people often do), unless they're a proven descendant of the first cavemen and hunter-gatherers and such coming from Africa tens of thousands of years ago.
    • Btw.  You should know that palestine is a made up country.   It never existed in history.  Before israel was awarded the land it was the British empire.  And before that the Turkish empire.    And you can google to see who was there before the turks.  But it was never palestine.   The people are Jordanian that Yasser Arafat took from Jordan because the king was killing them.   So if you're looking for a home, I would go to Jordan.   And Gaza was taken from Egypt in 1967.   Yet when sinai was given back, they never wanted Gaza.  I WONDER WHY!   so keep talking about a made up country that doesn't actually exist   Can wait to see your well thought and coherent response
    • It was.  Lately is just tears of people who hate that we kill all their idols like Sinwar and Nasrallah.    It's surprisingly nutritious
    • Algeria is third world.  Unless you lied about that as well and you don't actually live there.  Though I dont know why would someone pretend they live in that forgotten hell hole
    • You are speaking like an imbecile in a forum in online, its not your grocery store or mosque in your third world village.   We have an identity.   I wouldn't expect you to know it.  But I'm happy to see you be miserable since we are killing each terrorist one by one. Just big red marks on the year book.    Keep going.  It's a boring time on an olympic games forum.   It's very amusing.
