Who would you make your NOC flag bearer in Paris 2024?

Rudy Fernández (Basketball) and Carolina Marin (Badminton) are my choices for :ESP

Our National Comitee has a rule that states that flagbearers had to have Olympic medals from years prior, so both or them are good choices.

Maialen Chourraut (Slalom canoe) would be ideal but she competes next morning so imposible.

And I don't think Marcus Walz would be in Paris for the opening ceremony considering he doesn't compete until the last days.

Tough one as most of the big names are already retired. From the 3 team medals from Tokyo, and given the rugby 7s schedule, my guess is a combination of one the volleyball guys (if qualified) with one of the hockey girls. Like Facundo Conte or Luciano de Cecco and Rocio Sanchez Moccia.

:ROU David Popovici (Swimming) and Simona Radis (Rowing). I don't know if this will happen though. The women's double sculls heats start on Saturday morning and the men's 400m freestyle heats also will start then, and maybe David will also enter that race.

I wonder how it is in your country but in Poland we say: The flag bearer won't make it to the medal.

In recent editions Polish flag bearers were usually well-picked (imho) but they failed to get a medal almost every time.

Australia's flag bearers for the last three Summer Olympics all won medals.

I would say Paltrinieri. Without any doubts. I would like have Nespoli too, but calendar didn't give him any chances...

the male Flagbearer will be Giovanni Pellielo for sure (I bet nobody will have the "huevos" to leave him out, now that he's personally earned the quota place for the team), I fear

the female Flagbearer is more of a mistery (I think it won't be a shooter because of Pellielo, however) :mumble:

it can't be Caterina Banti nor a gymnast because of the schedule, too

I'd say it might be up to Irma Testa and Antonella Palmisano (or maybe Simona Quadarella or a Fencer)

p.s. personally, I'd really like to see Sinner and Egonu as Flagbearers, just to get half the people in this fuckin' Country completely mad :yikes: :roflmao: :raspberry:

Liemarvin Bonevacia or Churandy Martina. Although I doubt that'll happen because probably they won't be there yet anyway.

I agree with Bonevacia, absolutely deserves it!

Some other candidates in my opinion would be Sharon van Rouwendaal, Marit Bouwmeester, Abdi Nageeye, Roy van den Berg, Margot van Geffen or Eva de Goede.

I could also see them going for Menno van Gorp, who is a pioneer and former world champion in Breaking.

    • Non-Olympic Athlete, Moment of the Year and Olympic Spirit Award are the ones lacking the most. Paralympic Athlete and Breakthrough also don't have a lot of votes.
    • Do you have or have you ever had an modern ice track?
    • Still no progress in the Italian team: 2x 4th place in men's singles and women's doubles+ a fall in the team relay. Men's doubles and women's singles without any progress for years. What's worse, our women's doubles also significantly lowered their level: without a single podium in the World Cup in this season. As of today, I'm betting on 0 medals in Cortina for us, excluding some miracles on the home track.
    • There is some progress at Barp and Carollo but almost everything is still based on Pellegrino. In the men's we lost a great talent - de Fabiani and Davide Graz - they are at an age where we have a generation gap in these age groups: 1994-2000. In the women's I`m happy with Monsorno's progress in sprints but the last podium WC in the women's category was in... 2011. We wasted 15 years in the women's category and now we are only waking up with 1 year to go until the games in Cortina, when we should have a ready team like Germany (I will skip Scandinavia because of its completely different potential).
    • Italy doesn't exist in women's technical competitions without from Brignone and Goggia - both over 30 age. Unfortunately Bassino has been out of good shipe since from last season in the giant slalom and she is unrecognizable in some competitions. In the case of Goggia I also don't really believe in regular podiums in the giant slalom - she can't have falls and win in the downhill and super-G. The giant slalom is just a bonus.   The Italian women's slalom has basically been non-existent for many years. One Peterlini qualifies for the 30 and doesn't finish half of the competitions. I can't understand how it was possible to lose Colturi in a situation where other Italians have fallen so badly. Unfortunately it's not the Italian federation that should be setting the conditions here but it's Colturi and her mother - a talent on par with Shiffrin at her age.
    • In relay yes, but we have 8 more from our legend Natalya Yakushenko back in 2008 and earlier
