I can only assume Emile himself has not absolutely decided which event to target, marathon or 10,000...

I think that could be the case. It could also be the fact that he hasn't go enough marathons under his belt to back up his time from last year, whereas Sesseman has.

Haven't done one of these for a while but this weekend has one of the big domestic events for artistic gymnastics so thought it was worth taking a look at

Artistic Gymnastics

Policy Document(s):

mag-paris-oly-policy-final.pdf

wag-paris-oly-policy-final.pdf

Key Points:

  • Although separate policy documents, the process is essentially the same.
  • Medal target for men's squad is 1-2 medals. Likewise for the women, the target has been set as 1-2 medals.
  • Selection panel meeting 20-21 May with announcements likely to be made from 29-May.
  • There is no individual selection event - instead performance is assessed across 13 Designated Selection Events across '23 & '24.
  • In order to be considered for the squad, gymnasts are required to have achieved minimum performance standard for each apparatus at one or more of the DSEs.

Performance Factors to be Considered by Panel:

  • Athletes scoring potential to win a medal or achieve the performance targets at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games.
  • Current performance form in the build-up to nomination at the DSEs.
  • Consistent performance form in the build-up to nomination at the DSEs.
  • Major Championship and International performance standards in 2023 & 2024.
  • Engagement with the World Class Programme including adherence to agreed Individual Athlete Plan
  • Current medical and injury status including recent training history and any additional extenuating circumstances.

Designated Selection Events:

  1. European Championships- April 2023
  2. FIG World Challenge Cups – May-September 2023
  3. National Club Team Championships - October 2023
  4. Senior World Championships September 2023
  5. Apparatus World Cup – Cairo (EGY) - 15th-18th February 2024
  6. Apparatus World Cup – Cottbus (GER) – 22nd-24th February 2024
  7. English Championships – Telford (ENG) - 1st-3rd March 2024
  8. Apparatus World Cup – Baku (AZE) - 7th – 10th March 2024
  9. British Championships – Liverpool - 17-21st March 2024
  10. Apparatus World Challenge Cup – Antalya (TUR) – 29th – 31st Mar 2024
  11. Apparatus World Challenge Cup – Osijek (CRO) – 4th – 7th Apr 2024
  12. Apparatus World Cup -Doha (QAT) – 17th – 20th Apr 2024
  13. Senior European Championships – Rimini (ITA) – 2nd – 5th May 2024

Additional Factors:

  • Both Jessica and Jennifer Gadirova are currently injured and are in middle of rehab at Bisham Abbey's Intensive Rehab Unit. Jennifer Gadirova missed pretty much all of '23 season with an injury and then had ankle surgery (arthroscopy) in early January. Jessica Gadirova had ACL tear at World Champs and is about 3 months into her rehab program.

Are the Gadirova twins expected to make it back ?

Ever? Yes.

In time for Paris? Somewhere between not very likely and not a chance. But hard to tell what end of the scale.

That’s a real shame for the GB ladies, probably should lower that medal expectations…

I think any Artistic Gymnastics medals will come solely from the men.

It’s looking that way. A few individual finals possible but I’m not sure where a medal would come from
