First results of the Croatian 2021 population census have arrived today. We have 3.88 mil inhabitants.

That's nearly 10% drop compared to 2011. No wonder we are sinking like a stone in most sports...  :p

Yeah, the loss of population was very noticeable last week when you ran out of people to screw slalom poles into the ground, splash salt water on the snow etc.

Okay, reading the new numbers for counties/cities/municipalities is quickly becoming depressing... This is so much worse than the drop from 2001 to 2011. Probably something unseen in modern Europe?

My home town for instance dropped from 129k to 108k. Like, how is thst even possible? Okay, some adjacent places (suburbs) have grown, but still.

Big Brother (probably the most popular TV show in Brazil) is about to start a new season and there's a participant whose name is Eslovênia (literally "Slovenia"). Needless to say, some people are already calling her Eslováquia (Slovakia) :p@hckošice

and we have also the first results of the census :d

:SVK  5 449 270  inhabitants (95.8 % were born in Slovakia)

83.8% of the population stated Slovak nationality :p

The highest minority in the country is with 7.75% of the population, no surprise, the Hungarian minority, more of 80 % of them living in the southern districts,

1.23% the Roma minority, 0.44% the Ruthenian (Rusyns), 0.17% the Ukrainian and 0.53% the Czech minorities. Only 0.16% of inhabitants signaled another different nationality.

Most, up to 55.8% of people, mentioned the Roman Catholic religion in the Slovak Republic (3.04 million of people). The number of Catholics has however declined. In 2011, 62% subscribed to the Roman Catholic faith, now it is only 56% of the population.

The second most numerous group are citizens without religion (23.8%), resp. 1.3 million. The Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Slovakia was mentioned by 5% of permanent residents and the Greek Catholic faith by 4%.

For the first time there were people mentioning also Pastafarianism (The Flying Spaghetti Monster) had no idea what it is until I googled it ...wtf

Slovak language is the main language of almost 82% of the Slovak population, namely 4,456,102 people. The second most numerous is Hungarian (8.5%, 462,175 people). Romani is the first language of 1.8 percent of the people (100,526). Other languages account for less than one percent. Ruthenian (Rusyn) is the fourth most numerous language (0.7%), the fifth most numerous is Czech (0.6%). Other languages in Slovakia include Ukrainian, Russian, English, German, Polish and Vietnamese. 1835 inhabitants mentioned the sign language Slovak as their first language.
