Boxing IOC European Olympic Games Qualifier 2020

As an outsider I’d say the only boxing judging system that has ever worked was the one when they simply counted punches that landed and showed the scores in real time.  Any system based on scoring abstract concepts like “aggression” & “defensive effort” etc etc will always be manipulated.

It was a system I preferred but which the AIBA did not because it exposed their corruption and incompetence more openly.

Delfine Persoon has come from the professional ranks to attempt to qualify for the Olympics in the women’s -60kg. She is unseeded but she’ll be very dangerous. She is suffering from a neck injury though so she will not be at her full strength.

It still didn't work and lead to a bunch of baffling decisions.

Landing the greatest number of punches is also fundamentally not what Boxing as a sport is about.

But in amateur three-round boxing it is the only quality that can be judged objectively.  Like I say, in a corrupt sport you cannot rely on subjective judgements.

This is going to be an interesting division. Also unseeded Caroline Dubois is making her debut at senior level having gone undefeated in her previous 40 fights during which has won the junior world championship and Olympic Youth Games title.

The tournament includes one of the most beautiful names I've seen among athletes.

Lancelot Proton de la Chapelle, Belgium

That’s Lancelot “The Cannibal” Proton de la Chapelle, actually.

    • c'mon! stop those idiots! they're trying hard to ruin athletics in almost every aspect (road running, field events, the same cross country that has already been killed in practice)   please, someone shoot to death Coe and his accolades as soon as possible!!!
    • That's only if they don't listen to Trump's 48 hour deadline. But that is permanently 48 hours away, since, well, TACO.
    • I agree NO to Poomsae!!!   I think they plan to introduce 6 weight classes after LA instead of 8 right now, and those 6 should become Olympic instead of current 4 weights. Going forward world and Olympic ranking could be identical.    But it’s not clear if that means more quotas. Having 6 classes with 64 athletes per gender would be a joke. A reasonable taekwondo competition needs at least 16 athletes per weightclass. But I am not sure taekwondo can get another 64 quotas in total, I doubt it.    beside that I am not happy with the newly proposed weight classes, they give much more focus on light weight athletes, which will be an advantage for Asian countries mainly.    if the proposal is accepted the new weightclasses will be:    Female: 46kg, 51kg, 57kg, 63kg,70kg and +70kg    Male: 54kg, 60kg, 67kg,74kg, 82kg, +82kg
