Wuhan under lockdown , no one can travel/ leave this area , it reminds me some movies of zombies

I really wish the Chinese government wasn’t so oppressive. There’s so much they actually do right (of course there’s also an insane amount of things they do wrong). I’ve been super impressed with how they’ve handled this outbreak.

I mostly find it curious how something like this gets such huge media attention worldwide, while boatloads of way more dangerous diseases are never even mentioned.

Because China gets more attention in the global media than some forgotten African country like Uganda or Congo nobody cares about? :coffee:

I'm quite sure even inside China there are worse things causing more deaths.

Whatever happens inside China isn't a global problem though ;)

Well, to be fair, it is something new.

As obnoxious as it may seem, maybe all this media attention is helping limit its spread (just like it seemingly helped with ebola in 2014 and zika in 2016).

That is the reason why at least it is a bit understandable, yes. It's exactly what a Singaporese university professor on these diseases said yesterday: it's not that much more dangerous than the common flu, meaning it's not innocent but definitely not some killing monster. The question is how it'll develop.

    • I find it interesting how these events are all contested separately in the WC, vs the Olympics where the technical+free (e.g.) are together. Especially since here at this WC, I think just 2 teams competed in all 3 disciplines, and not sure about the women's duet.
    • ioc operates under Swiss law is it illegas in ? no so, it's as simple as it looks: no test? no professional sport (at least those sanctioned by ioc) end.   being an Olympian wasn't ordered by the doctor, if you don't like the ioc rules, just don't take part in ioc sanctioned sports/events

    • Missed this earlier, but BBC has signed a deal to show games over the next four years.   https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/articles/cnv8qlgdnezo
    • Surprisingly the BBC gave this a breaking news notification from their Sport app. Unusual for someone who has been semi retired for a couple of years now.
