Latest development about Coronavirus in UK.

Coronavirus: 'Serious mistakes' made, says Starmer

Exceprts from the article above.

Failure to provide enough protective equipment for frontline workers and delays over testing have been "serious mistakes" in tackling coronavirus, the new Labour leader has said.

Sir Keir Starmer said in an article in the Sunday Times, that ministers took too long to explain why they were "so far behind" on testing.

He also called for a "national vaccine programme" against the virus.

And he said ministers should publish an "exit strategy" to end the lockdown.

The 57-year-old decisively won the contest to succeed Jeremy Corbyn on Saturday, defeating Lisa Nandy and Rebecca Long-Bailey in a ballot of party members and other supporters.

Writing in the paper, Sir Keir said: "The Labour Party I lead will do our bit to offer solutions.

"But we will also speak for those who have been ignored; and where we see mistakes we are under a duty to expose them to ensure that they are rectified as soon as possible."

UK politicians wasted 3 years on this Brexit deal so what did anyone expect? Hell, COVID stopped more UK-EU negotiations so let's face it, the UK political scene has been nothing but total shambles since 2016. Labour Party hasn't had solutions for anything for the last 10+ years at the very least and their last "sociallist way" ended in a complete disaster.

Latest development about Coronavirus worldwide.

https://www.newscientist.com/article/2237475-coronavirus-latest-us-hospitals-come-under-increasing-strain/

Excerpts from the article above.

Worldwide cases pass one million

Coronavirus cases and deaths have begun to plateau in some European countries, including Italy and Spain, although cases and deaths continue to accelerate in the UK and the US. More people in the UK have died with coronavirus than in China, according to today’s figures from Johns Hopkins University.

In the US hospitals across the country are coming under increasing strain. In Louisiana, the death toll is mounting and there are concerns that the state could run out of hospital beds. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has ordered the National Guard to seize and redistribute any ventilators and personal protective equipment from facilities in the state. Florida has issued a stay-at-home order – over the past week cases in the state have been growing by hundreds daily.

There have now been more than one million confirmed coronavirus cases diagnosed across the globe, though the true number of cases will be much higher. More than 55,000 people have died from covid-19.

UK government faces questions over testing

UK health secretary, Matt Hancock, has pledged to have 100,000 people in England tested per day by the end of the month, following criticism of the UK’s coronavirus testing strategy.

Last month, Boris Johnson promised to move up to 25,000 tests a day with a goal of 250,000, but the UK is still only carrying out around 10,000 coronavirus tests per day.

The new testing target for England includes the introduction of antibody tests, to check whether people have already had the virus, in addition to the existing swab tests, which determine whether a person is currently infected. Antibody tests are still being validated and the government says they won’t roll them out if they aren’t effective.

You are right about it. The UK government is pretty much busy over Brexit than getting prepared to face the pandemic.

No surprise here. USA is a global power house. They will do everything to screw the world over during this pandemic time. The last time someone stood up to them and made them sweat economically was the 1973 oil crisis.

With 330 million population it's obvious USA was never prepared for this pandemic and they wouldn't have been prepared if Trump wasn't a president either. But they're making up the lost ground now and nobody will do anything to stop it.

You can never be 100 % prepared for the next pandemic, but had the pandemic playbook been followed some reactions would without doubt have been much faster. But that was thrown out the window along with everything else that the Obama administration had done to prepare for the next epidemic/pandemic.

It's not like Trump is the first to cut down on what a former administration did on the subject. Both Obama and Bush did as well. That's really not the main thing to blame him for (well, he is to be blamed, but so should the former presidents). What he should be blamed for, is his very slow response when others started recognizing the danger. That's where he's doing bad. While he and his supporters started throwing lies around about Obama's response (and not even the Ebola response that was questionable, but the response on H1N1 that was much quicker) things were going bad quickly.

And catching up? Well, in some states, but when Trump is letting his personal pride control his response, it's hurting in some states.

But Trump knew it was a pandemic long before it was even called a pandemic!

You can't trust a single politician to handle this pandemic. Nobody was ready for it and since there is no cure (vaccine) they're all fucked. Hell, Florida still had spring break gatherings or whatever when the virus was rampant in Europe. USA being a federal country with states being basically independent actually didn't help their cause. Not to mention nobody will rally around Trump in Democratic states regardless of what he says/does. This is still a political battle to be won rather than than a health crisis.
