Not a great keirin by Lavreysen. It's like he reacted to Richardson and Carlin and suddenly found himself in front and decided to keep going. 3 laps in front is just too much even for him.

Plus especially Carlin simply jumped the start, that race should have been stopped. I'm glad Quintero won, that's awesome and I hope they won't rerun it, but this was yet another fail by the seemingly somewhat incompetent jury in Glasgow :p

It seems a bit weird that they have scheduled all 4 of the women's omnium in the same evening session whereas the men's event had the scratch race in the afternoon session

That’s the normal scheduling on the circuit though - it was only because of all the para races they had to change the men’s

Ie the same jury who do everything, not specifically Scottish. But I agree they have been slack, compared to the London 2012 especially.

Not sure about that - may be the case in the Nation's Cup but looking back over the schedules for Euros and Worlds, definitely looks like previous they had the scratch and tempo race in afternoon session and then elimination and points in the evening.

Watching the keirin final, I was wondering…

Is there any consensus as to whether track sprinters are better in a straight sprint than road sprinters (or they are better/equal)?

Oh let's not bring London 2012 back in the game, with the absolutely shameful showing of the British team sprint men

Generally road sprinters are significantly better at straight sprints (assuming you mean on the road), but that might also be because road racing is a way, way, way bigger sport and so the field is a lot more competitive in general. Other than that, it's just entirely different: a massive explosion of 10-20 seconds like in the individual sprint or keirin vs a bunch sprint on the road after several hours of riding. Road sprinters are still endurance athletes really.

That being said, quite a lot of the road riders who have success on the track are sprinters. The likes of Mark Cavendish or Elia Viviani have been good on the track, but definitely not in sprint events (think points race, scratch, those kind of things), presumably because of the aforementioned thing of road sprinters still being endurance athletes more than raw sprinters. Either that or time trial specialists (the likes of Filippo Ganna).

The only real top track sprinter who was a somewhat decent road sprinter I can think of is Theo Bos, but he definitely didn't become much more than a B-tier road sprinter.

They have that in the Nation's Cup as well: first two events in the first session of the day, the other two events in the later session of the day.

    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
    • Totallympics had  users at one point, but I haven't seen any hanging around in a while.
    • In terms of total medals, yes. In terms of golds, I’d be fine with anywhere from 6-8.   @intoronto you don’t think we’ll do better or at least the same? Bit surprising.
    • Tadeucci was very good and took bronze
    • On the Olympics I don't like to count golds to analyse the performance, I think the best data are the top8 and medals. In both fields I expect a big improvement (obviously not on the 'pure' number, but on the percentage of medal or top8 events)
