Rafa Maciel 1,594 Posted August 5, 2023 #111 Share Posted August 5, 2023 Could be wrong, but have a feeling that in today's women's pursuit finals we saw a change in tactic from . Katy Archibald is undoubtedly the strongest cyclist in the squad, but in previous competitions she's gone out so hard in the latter parts of the races that the rest of the squad have struggled to keep up and they end finishing quite fragmented. In today's final, she put a pig push in in the middle of the ride to get GB ahead of the kiwis and then she was the rider to drop out and it ended up with a more solid ride for the squad as a whole. Can't recall any other instances where she has been the rider to drop out.
Rafa Maciel 1,594 Posted August 5, 2023 #112 Share Posted August 5, 2023 Women's Team Pursuit Olympic Ranking Barring any major disasters/surprises next year, I think the 10 Olympic quotas are pretty much set - not impossible for Poland or China to sneak in ahead of Japan, but it is going to be difficult for them to overcome a 500 point deficit. It's an increasingly clear tactic; put your best pure diesel in the front for the middle half/third, and have them just churn through the laps until exhaustion

It should be prelims - semifinal - final (no repechage). no, keirin's problem is that they should get back to the Eighties more riders in each heat (no less than 8) and fuck those supposed "safety rules", the only forbidden moves should be leaving the hands from the handle and riding on the blue lane, anything else must be allowed (as it used to be when keirin was a lot of fun) nowadays is just a 2-lap sprint with a few riders...they just killed it, made it a nonsense dcro and Josh

I think it's because right now she's not in her best shape (understandable, after what she went through), meanwhile Josie Knight is in the shape of her life and now she can lead the quartet in the last km like a train I'd be suprised if next year they won't be back to the old tactics

Maybe they could also do what you said, but basically noone getting eliminated before the semifinal makes it incredibly boring. OlympicsFan 858 Posted August 6, 2023 #118 Share Posted August 6, 2023 Absolutely the worst world championships i can remember. One event per day and somehow the sessions still last 5 hours and they never manage to stick to the schedule. The paralympic events should either not be part of the program or take place during the break between morning and evening sessions (when noone is forced to watch it). They seem to be awarding lap gains left, right and centre. In the last 5 runnings of this event, there were no more than 2 laps gained and yet here, they are saying some riders have gained 6 laps.
