Kibiwot despite providing a Hasan on the penultimate hurdle still managed to keep bronze infront of his buddy Bett

Pretty amazing - I've seen people fall on the early laps and medal, but I guarantee a fall on the last lap and medalling hasn't been done before.

Can anyone explain for me what’s the point with to give the medals before the prize ceremony? :mumble:

They are not the real medals, just tin ones.

They are fake medals for photos etc

As now we come across the world
To share these Games of old
Let all the flags of every land
In brotherhood unfold

The fuck is wrong with the World Athletics website being down every single time after the session?

So at least they have some medal for the photos and stuff, and in the excitement, instead of that nonsense with a medal ceremony the next day, with athletes getting their medals when all of the adrenaline and excitement is basically long gone.

It's World Athletics saying "we know medal ceremonies really should be shortly after the event, for sure in the same day, but we're not going to do that anyway, so shut up" :p

Japan is looking very dangerous in men's 4 x 400 m relay. They should win a medal.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

I like that there are no ceremonies stopping the program.

IMO, medal ceremonies should only exist at the Olympics and Paralympics (and other rare events like the FIFA World Cup and such). Medal ceremonies come from when sports were held exceptionally. Now everything in sports is over-saturated and the medal ceremonies are simply a waste of good time (in large majority of cases).

Just hand out the medals spontaneously right at the conclusion of the event (not the tin ones, the real ones). No need for an anthem. And definitely no need to play Gaudemaus 500 times at the Universiade.

1976 Olympic Games, same race, 3000 m SC.  Frank Baumgartl :GDR  stumbles over the last barrier and hits the deck, gets up to his feet and finishes third.  (He was in second place at the time.)

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
