We don't get TV commercials during live sporting event in public TV over here. Our commentators went RAVING MAD after TV director cut off from hammer right before Nowicki's first attempt to show some Ethiopians dancing on the warm-up track instead. So anyone watching TV could only watch Nowicki's first throw off tape some five minutes later (there was a special hammer cam on streaming though). I know nobody gives a flying hoot about field events these days but that was criminal coverage indeed, they didn't even cut off to lap 7 of the 10,000 race or something but to show some stupid dancing in the warm-up area

You guys keep throwing around concepts like “public transportation” and “public television.” Those are very foreign concepts to Americans :p

I’ve disliked NBC’s broadcast coverage for years. Although, to their credit, they do make the international feeds available for major events. Unfortunately, they started running commercials (at random in the middle of the competition!!!) over those feeds during Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022.

Now, I can’t even escape their broadcast choices by watching the international feed, since World Athletics or the HB are catering to their preferences

Kriszan was, funnily enough, barely even shown on live tv for the whole two days. Would have been so random if she snatched that bronze.

Overall the broadcast quality has been sub par to say the least. I'm so tired off all those stadium from the outside shots and even more of those warm-up/transport/calling room shots (which only ever show runners, because of course).

Honestly I'm fine with warmup/transport/call room shots, as long as they are done in appropriate moments....which they are barely ever done of course :p

I found it nice to see the preparation of the 100m final for example, with the guys preparing their start blocks and everything, instead of just the usual on-screen graphic followed by the official intros.

Stadium shots from the outside in events like this can suck it though, they literally add nothing. No insight in preparations, no building up tension, nothing.

Become European and get Eurosport where every field event has it's very own stream (available live and on-demand, as streams in 2023 should be) :d

European economy and everything else is already built for the country to function. Plus their politicians aren't stealing that much (in contrast of what Western media like to talk about Orban).

Now Bulgarian politicians are a different breed. With all the stolen money and corruption here in the last 12 years, that went for hotels in Northern Greece, we could probably build 5 such stadiums. Some countries just know their priorities.

There are about 3000 german companies in the hungarian economy. And american, french, korean, chinese companies. They are here for profit and not to build for the country! Just like a banana republic!

NBC really did a full-on inquisition with that interview though. I mean…making the guy re-watch the race on a monitor and narrate where it went wrong seems like a step too far to me. Athletes are still people as much as pundits/fans want them to be robots.

Bottom line, it isn’t how I conduct interviews.

that's what they always do on the Italian TV networks...how do you feel? let's re-watch your race and tell me what's gone wrong/great (depending on the outcome)

finally, what are you going to do at tonigh't party (if it's over and you got some remarkable result)/what do you think you have to do to improve next time (if there's another round or if it's over and you haven't got a good result)

they never go out of this scheme (in every sport)

that's how I really hate those post-races interviews that are only covering the action on the field

You got to see something of that? :p

I forgot to turn on the Eurosport Player stream of that specific final. Too bad, because in the main broadcast basically nothing was shown except for a random throw by Fajdek or Nowicki and some replay of a decent attempt by Katzberg (not even his winning throw). And all of a sudden that final was apparently over :p

yes, our TV (sky Italia, I don't know what our public TV did, I never watched them) did show the best throws of that competition (in double screen during the 10kms race, especially after the LJ was over)

and the reporters always updated the situation, giving decent attention to the competition

They show a different live calculation in the stadium? Because on TV Vetter was shown as bronze basically the whole way, with Vidts and then Krizsan being close for a bit, but in the last 100 meters or so they took the live standings away from the graphics, so on TV there was never any sense that anything unexpected happened in the fight for bronze...

Yeah, I saw that Krizsán was projected 4th on the TV, we are getting the TV feed in the stadium. But once the race was over the official results showed up on the big screen without Vetter and a couple of other athletes, so Krizsán was shown as the third placed athlete. They basically showed an incomplete final result for some reason in the stadium after the race was over, the points of the last few finishing athletes in the second 800m heat weren't calculated. Even the Hungarian Eurosport commentators got confused and started thinking it might be final. You can see it in the broadcast that even Krizsán was kinda confused because the crowd went wild.

    • My personal favorite in Canadian athlete is Valerie Grenier. She's so likeable and sweet
    • Canada had a great home-boost in 2010. Unfortunately, that's not the case in us – look at 2006... We won fewer medals in Torino 2006 than in 2002 (11 vs. 13)
    • Short-track is unpredictable and ridden by bullshit refs who give out weird penalties and home-advantage calls to favour the home athletes. Women’s hockey, we aren’t beating the US this time around, the rivalry series went horribly and I’d be happy if we can hang on to silver. It was that bad.    Freestyle skiing team, a lot of them have been getting injured our ski cross contenders (Hoffos, who was in the best form of her career, Sherret), Kingsbury, Oldham... Then you have Blouin, and reigning World Champion Liam Brearley in snowboarding, 2024 world champion in skeleton Hallie Clarke, and 2023 world champion in ski jumping Alexandria Loutitt who are all out injured for the season.   I don’t think you have anything to worry about, Italy will have a nice home boost and win 5-6 golds, but yeah that would’ve been pretty bad for us even before our entire team getting injured. I still view it as a disappointment either way.
    • Do you have short track, freestyle, snowboardcross, hockey x2? You'll definitely win 5-6 gold medals. If you want, I'll gladly sign now for Italy to win 5-6 gold medals in February... Canada has at least 3 girls competing for medals in the long distances, and we only have 1 Lollobirigida- also quite old.
    • team is seriously in shambles and I wouldn’t be surprised if we only win a few bronzes or slightly better at Milano-Cortina…   Our men are nonexistent, Dubreuil still is awful coming back from injury and nowhere near his 2021-22 form, he’d be lucky to get a top 16 finish. Jan-Bloemen is old and his 5,000m WC podium was a fluke, at best it’ll be a top 8 finish in each event. For the women, Weidemann won’t beat Groenewoud/Wiklund in the 5km/10km and Blondin with Groenewoud (probably, she beats her all the time) or Mangianello in the mass start, and Maltais can only aim for a minor medal at best. We don’t even have our team pursuit anymore, used to be by far the best and now we’re getting beaten by Netherlands/Japan…
    • A true champion- van der Poel came to Beijing for 2 gold medal, and he won 2 gold there, without worrying about other people from the Netherlands: Roest, Norway, or any other country. These are the kinds of people Italy lacks.
    • There's always someone who will show up there, but it's unlikely to be someone who'll win gold in Cortina. Ghiotto, on the other hand, in his best from a 1 or 2 ago, should be able to beat him quite confidently: Ghiotto beat Bergsma by at least 11-12 seconds in the 10km. If he's not in that form, he could just as easily lose to Semurunnyi or Lubineaud (sorry, if I write bad this 2 names).

    • TISC Annual 2025 - Voting Order & Provisional Grand Final Date     I have arranged a voting schedule for the upcoming TISC Annual 2025. Please see your jury's designated voting time in the table below. For convenience I have included a column showing the host country time in GMT and the local time for each jury based on their specific time-zone.   Please check to ensure the local time shown is correct as mistakes can happen!   Fortunately I have only had to make one swap to ensure every jury has a voting window within a reasonable time in their local time. That was achieved by swapping and . China will now vote in position #12 while moves to position #25.   For any juries who cannot personally deliver their votes during the live Grand Final, I will post their votes on their behalf.   Now that I have the voting schedule, I can begin work on the voting and scoreboard templates.   The provisional date I am setting for the Grand Final - Saturday 17th January. That's just under 3 weeks from now which I feel is necessary to allow enough time for me to fit in all the preparations around the holidays and an upcoming exam!     Session 1 Host Time (GMT) Local Time Jury Voting 09:00 10:00 Denmark 09:10 10:10 Sweden 09:20 10:20 Slovakia 09:30 16:30 Indonesia 09:40 09:40 Great Britain 09:50 10:50 Italy 10:00 11:00 Spain 10:10 15:10 Kazakhstan Break 10:20 - 12:00 GMT Session 2 Host Time Local Time Jury Voting 12:00 14:00 Ukraine 12:10 14:10 Bulgaria 12:20 13:20 Germany 12:30 20:30 China 12:40 13:40 France 12:50 18:20 India 13:00 14:00 Tunisia 13:10 13:10 Portugal 13:20 15:20 Greece Break 13:30 - 16:00 GMT Session 3 Host Time Local Time Jury Voting 16:00 18:00 Israel 16:10 17:10 Serbia 16:20 18:20 Romania 16:30 13:30 Brazil 16:40 17:40 Poland 16:50 10:50 Mexico 17:00 18:00 Netherlands 17:10 12:10 United States 17:20 18:20 Slovenia Break 17:30 - 19:00 GMT Session 4 Host Time Local Time Jury Voting 19:00 22:00 Turkey 19:10 20:10 Albania 19:20 20:20 Malta 19:30 19:30 Ireland 19:40 16:40 Argentina 19:50 21:50 Lithuania 20:00 14:00 Guatemala 20:10 12:10 Canada
