Imagine how unsportsmanlike it is to violate the Olympic Truce on the heels of getting a slap on the wrist for running a state-sponsored doping program during the Olympics you hosted…

IOC with another statement today in defense of the existing sanctions on BLR/RUS governments.

The IOC made a pretty big deal of it before Beijing 2022, so apparently I’m not the only one…

Exactly. It has been in all their Opening Ceremonies lately & Thomas BachGoldMedalFencing1976 mentions it in all his many speeches.

In terms of fan reception, Russia and Belarus competing would be met with outrage and constant booing at every session their athletes compete in. That's something the IOC definitely wouldn't want and would heavily risk if they continue to pursue this.
