Winter Olympic Games 2026 Bid Process

Recommended Posts

Iḿ watching the replay of yesterday and I think these words are too real to be true: "It is crucial, that the objectives of host cities are fully integrated with those of the Olympic Movement. And it all comes down to one word: sustainability." How did Stockholm lose after such a beloved-Bach-aimed words? :p

Because those words, like all word that come out of Bach's mouth, are hollow and meaningless. He'll trade his integrity and the survival of the Olympic movement for glitz and glamour at every turn.

and now it's time to start speculating about possible new sports/events which could/should be added to the 2026 Winter Games schedule...

some Italian media have already started dreaming of Natural Track Luge (we can fairly say "it's now or never"...if there's a remote chance to see this discipline at the Olympic Games, this is certainly at the Italian Games), Ski Mountaineering and Ice Climbing...

Not 2026 related, but this (the second point) could be massive and really a game changer for future bids.

I thought that was already the case a few years ago.

I'm hoping for natural track luge, ice climbing and telemark. Let's see if one of them gets in :p

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
