Women’s team is through to their second semifinal of the season (first was Dubai) after defeating United States 12-10 at the HSBC Vancouver SVNS! First time since 2017 that they’ve made it this far at a home tournament!

I’ll be there tomorrow! But will plan to show up after the 9th and 11th place matches, so won’t see the Canadian men play (grabbing breakfast with friends instead).

Ha. It’s funny I live in Vancouver but am out of town this weekend. I’ve never once been to the Rugby 7’s 😂

Women’s team wins bronze at the HSBC Vancouver SVNS after defeating Australia 19-14!

Might be in with a shot at a medal at the Olympics if they continue with this form.

HSBC SVNS Singapore is on right now. Wouldn’t normally mention any of the action before the event ends unless any big wins happen, but I just wanted to discuss something. What’s going on with our men’s team? In Singapore, they started off with close loses to New Zealand (22-17, off a last minute try by Kitiona Vay) and Australia (21-14), which are good results. Can’t read too much into that though, usually they play at least one close match every event against a strong team, and then finish in dead last. That shouldn’t be happening.

They just can't finish. This is commonly seen in inexperience teams or teams with a mental block.

The good news is we have the talent so once we get a better coaching staff we could be something special.

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
