Ski Jumping at the Nordic Skiing FIS World Championships 2023

Recommended Posts

@NearPup Yes, Polish coach Kazimierz Bafia is involved in training Canadian kids & teenagers for decades now, he has coached basically every Canadian ski jumper at some point due to lack of domestic resources and one might argue without him there would be zero Canadian ski jumpers even at FIS Cup level right now. Ski jumping is like track cycling, you have to have facilities to be any good and live nearby them as well. Or move into another country like Canadians do living in Slovenia...

By God Watson, Canada can fly! :yikes:  First ever medal at WC, men or women. Imagine, that random Olympic medal being the turning point for these and upcoming successes.

Men's side is a little random since only Boyd-Clowes keeps soldiering on a reasonable level but there's nothing random about Loutitt and Strate. And they had Taylor Heinrich before who sadly was totally on her own in the early 2010s and I believe she had to find a real-time job sooner rather than later.

Another disaster for the home nation  Nika Prevc finished dead last but I reckon she was affected after her brother's fall earlier...

Canada struggled without a velodrome till 2015 and then bam medals in 2016 and 2020. Hoping somehow facilities are built and maintained for younger Canadians to take up the sport.

We are allowed to celebrate this gold as ours, considering that Canadians have their home base in Slovenia, they live in Slovenia, they jump on Slatnar skis and their coach is Slovenian. :d

Yes, another dissapointment, Klinec and Križnar could end up mich higher with better first jump, Vtič as expected.

Nika Prevc jumped very bad both days, so she was not last because of brother's fall.

    • Despite total domination by the Norwegian men (and yes, it's exhausting and boring), the accomplishments this weekend of Emil Iversen and Einar Hedegart are worth highlighting, despite them being Norwegian.    Iversen was dropped by the Norwegian national team after the opener in Beitostølen 2 weeks ago and was not taken to Ruka. Instead, he won both the 10k and 20k Interval Classic starts in Gålå in the Norwegian Cup last week, which granted him a spot on the start line in Trondheim. He took full advantage of that opportunity and finished on the podium in the skiathlon, and finished just off the podium in today's 10k Interval Freestyle. This definitely puts his name in serious contention for a spot on the Olympic team, which looked incredibly doubtful just a few days ago.    Einar Hedegart, the 24-year-old biathlete who decided to challenge the stereotype that biathletes are inferior skiers to their cross-country counterparts, just won the 10k Interval Start against all of Norway's best in a de facto Olympic trial.    Yes, it's exhausting seeing nothing but Norwegian flags on the men's side, but there can be excitement just beneath the surface at times.
