Do you need to qualify to take part of this tournament, or is it open to everyone ? Or there any other special reason why we are not participating ?

No real restrictions on entries. There’s plenty of info on the pre-event stuff here

Ok, it must be simply us then. For some reason we did not send anyone. No idea why, as far as I know, the national team was reinstated last year after the previous season drastic dissolution.

:IND has not sent a team too. Our Rowing federation had governance issues previously and most rowers are from our Army/navy . They want to concentrate on the Asian Games so decided against sending a team for world championships which offers quota places !
I guess they evaluated we don’t stand a chance to win a quota place in these world championships so better to concentrate on the Asian Games ( we are sending a full team) where we might win medals , possibly Gold as well.

Not a great day for us. W2- seems like they will still get the quota regardless, but now the LW2X doesn't look so sure and W2X too young and inexperienced (20 yo and 18 yo). Their U23/U19 success in recent years can only take them so far in such a competitive boat class at the senior level.

That being said, I expect them to be much better next year to fight for a quota, as they'll each be one year older.

The other option is to send a W4- with the Kyridou sisters, Fragkou, and Tsamopoulou which should qualify and then hope a teenage combination of Dalidou with Lioliou or Natsioula can do it in W2X but it won't be easy.

At this point, only M1X and W2- seem 95% likely for us. LM2X and LW2X have been disappointing so far, and I didn't have such high expectations for M2X and W2X anyways.

good news for :ITA:

- the women's Double Sculls (despite being both lightweights, our girls proved themselves more than competitive also among the senior crews...a truly amazing quota place is not out of reach now -they're in the semis, they only need not to end last in the B Final and Paris will not be only a dream anymore)

-the men's Quadruple Sculls look in top form...they might even win it all

the bad news:

-almost everything not mentioned above, especially the women's Quadruple Sculls

the awful news:

Rodini & Cesarini...our women's Lightweight Double Sculls Olympic Champions most likely won't even qualify to the Paris Games...today they were just painful to watch

W2-  (11 places) - Romania, Chile, Netherlands, Australia, Greece, Spain, USA, UK, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Czech Republic.

One country will miss this place.

Germany is out!

Today Rodini & Cesarini do a great repechage heat, i didn't expect that. Let's see in semifinals..

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
