phelps 7,210 Posted February 6, 2023 #31 Share Posted February 6, 2023 FIS points for sure... most likely, some financial support by their respective NF, too then, I don't know what else might be at stake for them, if not the personal pride of being among the top 10/15 of a world competition. Since there are (and probably will be in the mens race too) so many DNS in the slalom part of the combined, this means someone like Moreno from Andorra or Muzaferija from Bosnia might end up in the top 15. Will this give them anything? I'm not talking about points for the world cup, but perhaps FIS points for a better start number perhaps or something of that nature (points for the nations cup, I dunno)? Top 15 at WCh earns great WCSL (World Cup Start List) points. This is the main goal for smaller nations skiers
hckošice 13,339 Posted February 6, 2023 #33 Share Posted February 6, 2023 2nd after Super-G Lara Gut-Behrami, also tied 2nd Ragnhild Mowinckel, 10th Ilka Stuhec, 11th Tessa Worley, 13th Alice Robinson, 19th Cornelia Huetter, 20th Sofia Goggia and 27th Ania Monica Caill all DNS in the Slalom
justony 444 Posted February 6, 2023 #34 Share Posted February 6, 2023 Just because of top 15 finish at Olympics skiers from Andorra and Australia started among best 10 in super G. Personally I love Combined, but because there are no skiers left who compete in all disciplines and even FIS does not recognize this discipline with no races in World Cup it has become obscure. Also, maybe it would be better to race classic Downhill race, and then organize next day (or even in the afternoon) one Slalom run to determine Combined podium. Grassmarket 2,841 Posted February 6, 2023 #38 Share Posted February 6, 2023 Strangely enough at FISU games they had 80+ people doing the Combined, so it clearly has a use for young skiiers…just not for the Pros.
