I expected Brazil, Australia and New Zealand to do better, but obviously it can still change. 8 quote places would be great for Germany. Quite telling that Germany (right now) would qualify in all events except men's/women's skiff, obviously that is their weak spot.

Really shocking that we are not on this list considering our history in the sport. Even in Tokyo we had 8 quotas (6 boat classes) which was considered low for us.

I still think we will qualify some others in the next regattas, but we will probably send something like 3-5 sailors to Paris.

470 being reduced to two quotas from four really hurt us, and none of our mixed combinations are anywhere near as good as we were when they had separate genders.

We also seemed to do way better in RS:X compared to iQFoil.

Finn getting removed also cost us a spot, as did Karachaliou switching to Portugal in the women's laser radial.

I still think we'll qualify in the men's laser, men's kite, men's iQFoil and possibly one of the two-person boats or women's iQFoil...

:HUN Érdi is still leading the women's dinghy which kinda proves that she should be a medal contender for Paris. I still can't believe how much the Hungarian federation fucked her when they just kind forgot to pay the fee for her Paris Test Event appearance. She missed one of the most important events for her Olympic prep, and if that hurt her chances in any way I will be furious. We rarely get any chances in sailing and the federation is so amateur that they even manage to mess up these rare occasions.

Could someone please explain the competition format in Kite? What happens after 20 races? How many do advance to Semifinal and how many to final?

thanks

thanks

if they use the same format of the world cup races:

the top 2 of the ranking advance directly to the finals, while the remaining 8 surfers are divided into 2 4-man heats "semifinal round" according to the serpentine system (3rd/6th/7th and 10th in one heat, 4th/5th/8th and 9th in the other heat)

the best ranked surfer in each heat starts with 2 "ghost wins", the 2nd best with 1 and the other 2 surfers with 0

the first to 3 wins in each semifinal group advances to the final round, which has the same format (the no.1 of the qualification races starts with 2 "ghost wins", the 2nd with 1 and the 2 surfers coming from the semis with 0. once again, the first to 3 wins gets the gold medal, then silver and bronze are awarded to the surfers with more wins in the final round and, if tied, the actual result of the last race counts for the final positions)

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
