Interesting how Mr Bach keeps insisting he makes a trip to Hiroshima, even though locals are against it, and the actual key people of the Olympics - the athletes - are dropping like flies at this point due to both true and false positive tests, or just ludicrous quarantine rules.

But then again, who am I to question the Master of the Universe himself?

According to the Italian press, :UGA Julis Ssekitoleko (weightlifter) disappeared in Tokyo and did not show up for the covid test after two members of the Ugandan delegation tested positive.

What was he doing there in the first place, considering Uganda has no weightlifting quota?

Edit: I see, he was on a waiting list and had been informed he didn't make it. Was in Japan in case he would, makes sense. Sad though..

Off-topic fun facts:

10 Slovaks will travle to Tokyo as referees, official or judges.

The most unusual and interesting person will be Vladimír Miller (in Modern Pentathlon)

he will be the guy who will have to pick the 18 horses and 4 more reserves for the Modern Pentathlon competition to ensure the competition to be fair.

This is huge :d

" My task is to select eighteen horses and four reserves, which will be at approximately one level of performance, so that no competitor is favored in the Modern Pentathlon riding part. "

Artistic Gymnastics: Ľuboš Rupčík will be the head jury in M Horizontal Bar.

    • I feel like the shooting coaches are doing something terribly wrong. A good example is Hanna Öberg who started her career as best in the individual event (where shooting is more important) winning 1 olympic and 2 world titles despite not being a very good skiier. Suddenly she was one of the better skiiers (not this season) but very unstable shooter.    i think they practice to little on competition-like circumstances and too little in bad weather conditions too. And maybe need mental help. The coaches when interviewed have been talking for years how good Ponsilouma is at shooting both during off-season training and in the pre-race warm up shooting. Still terrible shooter in competition even if some of his very few successes have been in the most important races
    • As a Mediterranean, it makes me very strange that Prague is not included in the project. Usually the Czech Republic is one of the pivots of Visegrad/Mitteleuropa. Am I missing something or some political controversy between the IOC and the Czech NOC?

    • Nah, I don't think that we'll have some problems.
    • The last time this happened - all three athletes on the podium had zero podiums before - was Les Saisies sprint in December 1990: Uschi Disl, Elena Melnikova (future Sergei Tchepikov's wife) & Kerstin Moring. The latter two never finished on the World Cup podium again. This was also the race where Disl became the second youngest World Cup winner ever (currently down to third because of Neuner).
    • In general almost all Fisi sports have been doing terribly this season. One debacle after another and the Colturi case completes the scale of embarrassment. Apart from single star like Goggia, Brignone or Pellegrino, only the alpine snowboard looks good.
    • Unfortunately the Italian men's team is poorly prepared for the season. Everyone is in terrible shooting form. Somewhere a mistake was made in the preparations. We are recording a big regression compared to the previous season. It`s becoming more and more likely that we will not stand on the podium even once this season (I can't remember the last time something like that happened). In the Nations Cup we are in 6th place and we may lose 6 starting places in the World Cup from next season. I`m increasingly worried about what will happen in the Olympic season. Without Vittozzi returning to top form, we completly will not count.    In general our entire winter season looks very bad: biathlon as above, cross-country skiing - still only Pellegrino, luge - poor form, alpine skiing without Goggia and Brignone doesn`t exist.
