Tokyo Summer Olympic Games 2020 News

I'm just reading interviews of spanish race walkers lately talking about women's 50km race walk at the olympics. I know it's not in the programme but I can't believe they don't know about it. And considering who it all went down when the event was added at the World Championships, maybe is happening behind close doors we don't know about?

Cause for example Julia Takacs (European bronze medallists) sais she's training to compete in both race walking events in Tokyo....

At 20:45 says they haven't had it sure yet but that things are looking like it's going to be added.....

If they could remove the mixed 4x400m relay and replace it by the women’s 50km walk I would be pretty happy...

A women's 50km walk in 2020 would at least be more competitive than what happened in 2017. Using the 2017 Worlds qualification standard 21 women (with a max of 3 per NOC) would qualify to the Olympics based on 2018 results, so we are doing a lot better than in 2017 when only six athletes made the standard. I wouldn't oppose a smaller field relative to the men's in 2020 with it expanding in 2024.

if they make the women's 50km walk an Olympic event, I expect the number of competitive girls rapidly increasing...and by much...;)

for sure Italy would quickly find 3 girls way better than that standard time, if only it would make sense to our NOC (our federation is led by people who don't care about anything but their "armchair"...so, I don't count on them for anything)...

I'd be happy about removing the mixed 4x400m anyway, no matter if they replace it with a 50k walk :p

I agree, but just in case...women's 50km walk is definitely better than the farce named "mixed relay"...

    • I find it interesting how these events are all contested separately in the WC, vs the Olympics where the technical+free (e.g.) are together. Especially since here at this WC, I think just 2 teams competed in all 3 disciplines, and not sure about the women's duet.
    • ioc operates under Swiss law is it illegas in ? no so, it's as simple as it looks: no test? no professional sport (at least those sanctioned by ioc) end.   being an Olympian wasn't ordered by the doctor, if you don't like the ioc rules, just don't take part in ioc sanctioned sports/events
