I watched his QF against one of our guys (the weakest member of our Sabre team) and when he lost , my reaction was, ah this guy was terrible, you threw your best ever chance away (for a breakthrough in his career) really surprised to see the Polish guy won the whole thing at the end he looked amateur to my untrained eyes. He has 25 years old it's time for that. This results is a huge suprise for us. It's a pity that it's not olympic qualification tournament.

I wouldn't say "amateur", but it's clear that he doesn't have the same technical skills that the top specialists. Yesterday he took advantage of home enthusiasm and a couple of home calls, but, more than anything, by a favourable draw and a lot of mental mistakes by those who faced him. Baher actually wasted a big chance (as Gallo did in the semifinal match) to turn his day from good to great. MHSN
phelps 7,670 Posted February 12, 2023 #76 Share Posted February 12, 2023 in the meantime, in the women's team sabre we're gonna have the most unexpected gold medal match ever... Azerbajian vs Bulgaria @Federer91 if someone put a few bucks on that, he's gonna change his life soon... maestro

I saw some news about a good performance yesterday in the individual, but that's about it. Strange to see a team success, as we have always had only 1 adequate athlete, if any at all, in fencing. :D
Quasit 865 Posted February 12, 2023 #78 Share Posted February 12, 2023 Women's Sabre seems unpredictable right now. After last night, I wouldn't have guessed on Greece losing to Uzbekistan for example. Two good fencers aren't enough with Mpenou as the weak link in the team. phelps 7,670 Posted February 12, 2023 #80 Share Posted February 12, 2023 and just another early loss for Alice Volpi and Tommaso Marini in the home women and men's GP event in Turin the men's team sabre guys lost to Hungary in the semifinal match and now they're also losing badly to the in the bronze medal match. only the women's team Epee girls have reached at least the gold medal match (in a few minutes vs ). not the greatest day for our sport...even for Fencing...
