19 Yellow and 2 Red Cards. Absolute world record ? Oh my dear lord

Valentin Ivanov, 18 years ago on the Portugal - Holland WC 1/8 is still more legendary. It was again in Germany :p

This format is the worst. England and Portugal pretty much helped Slovenia and Georgia to qualify by not even trying in the final round. I mean, kudos to them, but we got fucked by the draw. The current Hungarian team isn't great but even we would have beaten this b-team from Portugal and maybe even England under these circumstances (as we did in the NL). Please, expand the Euros to 32 countries already and abandon this "third placed teams qualify" nonsense.

Anyway, the real tournament starts now and the top teams will actually give a shit from now. I doubt that we will see many upsets from now on. This is what I am expecting:

QFs:

:ESP v :GER (might be the early final)

:POR v :FRA

:NED v :AUT

:ENG v :SUI

SFs:

:GER v :FRA

:NED v :ENG

Final

:GER v :ENG

And as is the ongoing Euros tradition, the host nation loses the final. :d

EURO 2004 final: :POR loses against :GRE

EURO 2016 final: :FRA loses against :POR

EURO 2020 final: :ENG loses against :ITA

EURO 2024 final: :GER loses against :ENG

I mean, at some point England will inevitably pull off a win with their awful, but mostly effective anti-football. It might as well happen this time as they once again won't face a true opponent until the final.

I hope that Italy will win against Switzerland and will be classic Italy-England in 1/4. With our current form, of course, we will not be the favorite but we have a very favorable record against England at the last major tournaments.

England have won 2 out of their last 8 games. I don't think anyone should be accusing us of not trying. We're just not very good at the moment.

The draw looks very lopsided. Top half seems much stronger. Any of the teams in the bottom half should fancy their chances of getting the final.

Yes this format with the best teams from 3rd place is everytime the worst. There is double advantage of weaker group.

Moreover for me, it does not have sensei, that last matches in same group is needed to play at same time when more important is comparing teams between groups at 3rd places.

Euro should be with 16 teams. World Cup with 32 teams. I would prefer this one more despite that Czech will not qualify

Portugal lost because they wanted Slovenia in Round of 16, they knew what they doing.

    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA
