Forget India.

:NGR :PAK:SAM:TGA All these what do you have to say?

It's not that qualifications should be easy. Infact all unqualified nations MUST be allowed to send 1 athlete in either speed skating, short track speed skating ,alpine or cross country skiing. Otherwise these games won't improve.

:PAK qualified a skier.

I ain’t looking to watch kids kill themselves for the sake of universality.

So did :HAI:TTO:PHI:THA:RSA (1 in each gender for Thailand and South Africa). Actually @Fly_like_a_don every continent is represented at the games. These games may also be on there way towards record participation in a Winter Olympics. In fact 3/4 NOCs are scheduled to make their Winter Olympic debut.

I agree with your sentiments about giving every country a chance, but in some cases we’d be putting athletes in way to dangerous situations. Plus, some nations just can’t afford to find winter sports (they are very expensive). I think we should actively encourage greater participation, but we should also advocate for athlete safety and well being too.

As we hit the 25 days to go mark, let’s take a look back at the Lillehammer2016 Opening Ceremony! It set the standard for all future YOG Opening Ceremonies in my opinion, and I found it quite enjoyable and youthful.

But not urban enough

It felt it was pretty urban. Open to the public, at the famous ski jump hill. Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding in the ceremony.

Honestly this is one of my favorite opening ceremonies of all time. It’s unique it that it takes a largely humorous tone throughout the ceremony. It plays to local lore, and even pokes fun at it. The ceremony is almost entirely performed by youth performers. The cauldron is lit by a symbol of next generation leadership. The music and lighting is done very well for an outdoor production. Plus, we get to see many of the sports in the games actually become a part of the ceremony. It’s also not a marathon length ordeal like Rio’s 4 hour extravaganza. Overall, it’s easy to like.

If countries like Pakistan can qualify but not India, it's not the Games that needs to improve. It's India.

Doing text live coverage with the internet breaking all the evening - I was getting really nervous, but somehow managed to do it.

My favorite part: HRH Princess Ingrid Alexandra walking in the steps of her father as the Olympic Torch lighter.

My least favorite part: Marit Bjoergen's appearance

    • Kudos to you bud, I don't think anyone was happy with the performance by Canada all tournament, but we all stayed on until the end. Take as much time as you need.
    • As new sports I would add cyclocross with the condition it needs to be contested on snow. I would add ice climbing in speed and lead events. I would add freeride ski and snowboard. For new events I would add team sprint events in speed skating, women's Nordic combined, mixed team ski cross, mixed team parallel giant slalom, women's team ski jumping and add longer distance ski mountaineering events.    If there was room on the schedule I would also expand curling to 12 teams in each event.   In total I would add around 20 events for a total of 136 events. Cyclocross-3 Ice climbing-4 Freeride-4 Speed skating-2 Ski jumping-1 Nordic combined-2 Mixed team ski cross-1 Mixed team parallel giant slalom-1 Ski mountaineering-2
    • Hey everyone , now that the Olympics are over just wanted to make an announcement that I'll be taking a break from posting on Totallympics for the most part, and watching sports. Mentally these games have broke me in so many ways, and I need time to reset. Not sure for how long, at least a week, but I'll be back for the Paralympics.   I thought taking time to reflect over the past week and a half, it would make Grondin's silver feel better, it didn't at all. I still think about it all the time and it hurts. Just upset, frustrated, and disappointed that he was a photo finish away from gold... again, and I'd trade half of our medals for the colour to be changed.    Not to mention Canada only won 21 medals, 5-7-9, which is our lowest total since Salt Lake City 2002 with less events, but whatever I got used to it half a week ago...
    • Otherwise the tournament has been excellent in ice hockey, and overall too. 😊
    • Overtime being 3-on-3 is such a bad rule, especially in a final.
    • NBC had a lovely special after the ceremony...even highlighted some non-USA athletes.  Perhaps a few Americans will know Klaebo's name now!  There was even a segment highlighting the Italian medallists, that this was a record year for them, too.   (Best of Milan Cortina, on Peacock, if you can access it.)
