What do you think? Of course it doesn't matter now for this year contest - just curiosity.

I slightly prefer Moment of Silence to be honest. I think before it was pulled it was on the fence of qualifying, maybe 9-12 place. But like others have said, EBU should have taken that decision either before this year, or after the show, not 2 weeks when the guy has done promotion and expected his participation etc.

Yeah, this is unfortunate for Ovidiu, being in the center of this whole fight between the EBU and TVR. I mean, yes, the EBU should've picked a better time to withdraw services for TVR due to them defaulting on their debt, but at the same time, TVR should've at least made payments since the EBU had been asking for the money. Either way, it's messed up and I can only feel for Ovidiu after everything he has done.

Okay, semi-final 1 is done with their first rehearsals, so i'll give my thoughts from the short clips.

100% qualifying - Russia, Armenia, definately first and second in this semi-final. Iceland and Malta are also going through, though Ira could go down a few notches from pre-rehearsals, but she will have no problem qualifying.

Big improvements that put countries in contention - Greece, Netherlands and Czech Republic. Greece has a bad song, but their staging is a vast improvement and they are surrounded by duds, so with them being very popular country i think they will squeak in, which i didn't think before. Netherlands and CR have a simple, but classy staging and with the good singing performance it will make an impression surrounded with all the visual stuff from others. I think juries will rank them pretty high.

Countries that lose positions - Croatia and Azerbaijan. Croatia was a front-runner in the beginning of the campaign, but Ninas weird space video first and now that weird asian dress and very bland staging has it losing positions fast. It can qualify, but i won't be surprised if it is this years big flop from pre-season favouritism. As for Azerbaijan, just Samra looking amazingly beautiful () won't cut it, she needs to sing properly too. I read that she has the flu, but that rehearsal was dead awful. Could we see Azerbaijan not qualifying for the first time?

Countries with no change - Hungary, Cyprus, Estonia. I was very optimistic that these three would qualify, but now i'm not so sure that all three will make it. Nothing drastical happened, but they didn't struck me that much.

100 not qualifying - San Marino, Montenegro, Moldova (though i liked the nice routine they have, but that won't be enough), Finnland, Bosnia and Austria.

If i had to pick the 10 finalists - Russia, Armenia, Iceland, Malta, Hungary, Cyprus, Greece, Croatia, Czech Rep. and Netherlands. I'm reserving to make changes after the second rehearsals. :d

I would swap Netherlands for Estonia and then your 10 finalists are the same as are mine :d

    • Meanwhile, Iran killed a Palestinian civilian on the West Bank last night (and lightly injured two Israelis) in a 180 missile attack, which - like in April - seems to have ended up being not much more than somewhat annoying and damaging a few military buildings.
    • America was founded as a country for immigrants from all over (legal immigration), Israel is the land of the Jews, the one land of the jews, so yes i could definitely say that they should take them back, though after the recent attacks i'm not sure who can take them where since it seems like we are about to turn the middle east into a big crater (hopefully)
    • Until about 15 years ago, France probably didn't even have a national futsal team? Or if they did, they certainly didn't play in big events. On the other hand: Italy, Russia and Ukraine have always been strong in this sport, although Italy almost always lost to Spain in key matches.
    • In these days it's rare for a Russian to support for the Ukrainians, am I right?
    • The whole "homeland" talk (which both Israelis and Palestinians engage in) always bothers me because of how incredibly stupid it is.   As a random example, I am Acadian. So where is my "homeland"? Is it Quebec, the "French" area in North America? Is it New Brunswick, where my ancestors fled to after being deported? It it Louisiana, which was set asside for them as a place to live by the British after they were deported? It is Nova Scotia, where the Acadians settled before being conquered and deported? Is it Normandy, where my ancestors lived in Europe before settling in Nova Scotia? Is it Denmark, where my ancestors lived before conquering Normandy? Or do I go back further? Or maybe I should live in Great Britain since my ancestors were forced to become subjects of the Crown? And I'm Roman-Catholic, so maybe Italy is my homeland?   Especially stupid because for every single one of those places, some other group has a better claim as it being their "homeland" than I do, because it turns out it isn't that rare for multiple ethnic groups to have competing legitimate claims over the same area.   Anyway, I ended up moving to Washington State, which is objectively not "my homeland" but, hey, weather's nice here.
    • This feels like... not an argument an American (or a Canadian :P ) should be making given where we live and how many countries could "take us back"...
    • Plus losing one of the classic winter sports in Nordic combined would be yet another disaster. Like it's not going downhill faster than Marco Odermatt already.
    • And considering Lappartient is basically known as having 'Conflict of Interest' as his middle name....yeah.
    • What nonsense is this?     And Tour de Ski only in Italy...meh. It was such a cool event, years ago.
