The same day the winner of mens high jump in Cali Did 2.14, Melwin Lycke Holm, 17 year old son of 2004 olympic champion Stefan Holm won the Swedish nationals with 2.18.

Wouldn't have been gold for him I think. Participating at home and doing well and doing it in a different country in  different conditions has a lot of difference

Amazing run by Guček to finish second. He broke a new NR too! The one that stood for over 42 years!. Looks like the new crop of our athletes might have the potential to be our golden generation. With Sadek, Duhovnik, Tomassini, Guček, both hammer throwers, Apostolovski and even Čeh our future in athletics looks bright. And to think after Kozmus we thought we would never get a medal again.

c'mon! yesterday's event in Cali was heavily conditioned by the rain and especially by the 90-min stoppage after 2m10cm...

when they restarted the competition, there was just 1 jump out of 18 clearing the next hight (the game winner by the Jamaican guy) because of the horrific conditions...

starting the competition, there were a few guys with PB well beyond 2.20, more than one going beyond 2.25 already...

we can say that yesterday's race doesn't reflect at all the technical value of the entire age class...

that said, we all know that Holm is very good and coming...but you just can't compare events held in such different places, environmental conditions and psychological pressure...

by the way, finally Italy is on the medal table after a week of fails and negative performances...

Rachele Mori (niece of Fabrizio Mori, 400m Hurdles world champion in 1999 and still Italian record holder over the distance) filled her contract and as expected destroyed the field in the women's Hammer Throw, winning by a 4.5 meters margin in a very difficult night...

and Marta Amani improved herself up to 6.52m in the last effort of the women's Long Jump competition to reach an unexpected bronze medal...

Oh wow, what a massive screw-up by the TV directors in the women's high jump :yikes:

They showed almost the entire competition, then showed the three women go over 1.93m....and then next scene they skipped straight to Bruus being the only one to have a chance left at 1.95m, meaning they missed all three attempts at 1.95 for both Topic and Weerman and two of Bruus. Just, wow.
