Women's Volleyball CEV European Championship 2023

Decent results in recent friendlies, for example we played 4 sets vs Bulgaria just a couple weeks ago and won all four of them (whereas they beat us 3-0 at the European Championships in both 2019 and 2021). In general our team seems to have improved over the past few years, mainly due to our teenage star Martha Anthouli (2.02 cm) leading the way now.

Yes but Bulgaria beat them back and also lost to Ukraine twice. And from there there's a jump in level to Germany.

I think just getting out of this group is good enough for Greece. It's clearly the toughest one as well with no obvious weak team.

Expected return to earth :p

0-3 lesson from Holandsko today. An outcome which never was in doubt, nice schooling for our girls, but damn they know how to play some great volleyball in that flat piece of land

Croatia played in the Nations League this summer and now lose three in-a-row in one if the easier groups :mumble: Something isn't clicking there.

We are making so many ridiculous mistakes, our inexperience is showing. We have a new, young team, only 4 out of the 14 players from 2021 returned.

Anthouli is a big talent though and we are blessed to have Strantzali as well. We need a few more years I think to become better, and also with Vasilantonaki back in the team we will be much, much stronger.

:UKR won 3-0 over :BEL and :SWE won 3-1 over :GER (Haak ) yesterday :yikes:

With Germany dropping over 12 points, Canada moves ahead of them to #11 in the World Rankings. Huge towards our hopes of qualifying for Paris.

Despite the expected and completely deserved one-sided "fessée" from la france yesterday, our girls achieved the pre-tournament silently-dreamed goal and officially advanced to the Round of 16 with still 1 match to be played in the group against host EST.

Bravo girls ! well done ! enjoy your knockout round match (only the second in history) :cheer:

Do you know why the (poor) results of Canada from 6th-21st August doesn't count for the World Ranking? I see Canada played against Mexico, Peru, USA, Argentina, Colombia and so on. Results of Puerto Rico, Mexico and other lower ranked teams are counting for the World Ranking. But for Canada, USA, Dominican Republic they don't.

It's already difficult to maintain this sport, and with this ridiculous format this year, things have gotten even worse. Years and years participating in the elite and we haven't been able to evolve; it was just a waste.

    • some changes in the team and less importance to the sport, the two big teams until 2022/2023 ( and ) in south america started to decrease a lot and in the other hand the 3rd in South America () is growing a lot, is really impressive. We are currently the favourites for the LA2028 quota
