This is the second time Canada fails to qualify a male rower at a non-boycotted Olympics.

The first time? 1900.

Actually Toronto Argonaut Rowing Club did enter in 1900 but pulled out before the Games began

With qualification wrapping up in most sports, I wanted to see the team size difference vs 2020 (for team sports, I went with the 'normal' size in 2020, instead of the covid increase). I also did not include sports which are not on the Paris program (or were not on the Tokyo program, like Breaking). For the sports not done yet, I have estimated the team size.

To be fair, 2020 was a high year for Canada. Even if we fail to qualify volleyball (a 50/50 chance IMO), we'll have a similar size to 2016 (which was also a high mark).

I'm hoping Rowing Canada figures itself out.

Agreed, but at the same time there’s been many disappointments this Olympic qualification period. Wasn’t expecting 380, but thought 330-335 was doable.

  • 3 weeks later...

Early July I’ll (hopefully*) be doing a rundown of Canada’s Olympic qualification period! :cheer:

Couple of weeks before the games begin, I’ll also (hopefully*) be doing a Canadian Olympic preview, including listing all the various medal chances, and making predictions of my own.

* Might not have enough time, with all the sporting events I watch, and all of the other stuff I do but we’ll see.
