Great start for us already with the first mens weight and Angel Rusev defending the title from last year. He could have made more in the C&J and made an U23 record, but got the emotions going after securing the cold.

Very tight fight with the Spaniard Brachi, who dropped a weight, which turned out to be a great move for them, getting an overall silver and small gold in the snatch. It did help that the two Turks bombed out and Berdelidze failed spectacularly in the C&J, though i think he would have beaten them either way.

3 out of 3   Only disappointment is that this 100th edition should have been held in Bulgaria, so it could have been a real celebration for the sport. Only if it wasn't for the power hungry morons here, who just don't f'n go away and continue to try to destroy the sport.

Our only medal hope Bražaitė finished 5th. Well done to her nevertheless, as I can't recall Lithuania even competing in women's weightlifting, let alone fighting for the medals opportunities.

where did that Albanian girl come from in the women's -55kg?

I am very curious about her if anyone has any info about her background. Her name is Greek (I can't find any other Albanians named Evangelia/Evagjelia, and I know Greeks with the surname Velis/Veli although I guess the name is basic/short enough that the feminine Greek version could also be a surname in other countries? It's not like her surname is Giannopoulou or something :d), and she writes a lot in Greek on Instagram comments under her posts and I remember she used to have a lot of photos in Athens (I stalked her profile periodically after I spotted her name at the Rio Olympics ) and I still can't find out what her story is. She always used #albaniangirl or something on Instagram (never claimed to be Greek as far as I know) and all of her old photos were deleted and it looks like she is no longer based in Greece.

Wikipedia says she's from Fier which is not part of the Greek minority zone in Albania...

For almost 6 years now I have been trying to find info on her background :p

I was expecting a world record today. mostly from Karlos Nasar but it was Antonino Pizzolato who broke the WR today! 89kg was a non-Olympic weight until few months ago with a low level and those Standard WRs were still there until today but the Italian broke CJ and Total WR today. 392kg in total is an impressive result. might be enough for an Olympic gold.

    • Finals are set    An all-Canadian final on the women’s side, as Team Homan looks to win their third title of the season (and improve to 18-1) against a hungry Team Einarson who have had a less than ideal start to the season, they were also the last Canadian team to beat Homan over a year ago (same event coincidentally), while on the men’s side it’ll be a battle between Olympic medalists as Team Mouat goes against Team Gushue!
    • Yeah, it was clear. But i repeat, we need it? I think no.
    • GSOC HearingLife Tour Challenge Semifinals  Women  Team Fujisawa v.  Team Einarson  Team Lawes v.  Team Homan   Men  Team Mouat v.  Team McEwen  Team Dunstone v.  Team Gushue
    • In the past the ISU has now allowed countries without a Federation to compete.
    • yeah I know    I mean it wasn't a different team specific for that sport. it was the same CC team participating in both sports.
    • It is run by a different federation though
    • from what I heard , Iran has registered to participate in Alpine, CC skiing, SkiMo, Skating (they didn't mention which discipline ) and ... (this one will be surprising ) ... Curling    Curling is not a sure thing yet, the NOC has to approve it. the team is very new. I mean very very new, only few months ago they gathered few people to start the sport  you can't lose 100-0 in Curling, right ?    anyway it will be first time ever Iran participating outside of FIS disciplines. ( I didn't count Ski orienteering in 2011 which was the same as CC)   nobody cares about winter sports here. therefore finishing last won't have consequences. they can afford sending very weak teams. (which is not the case for the main Asian Games)
    • World Junior Championships ( Dushanbe)   Day #4 Medallists   women's -78kg Gold:  Brenda Olaya Silver:  Mathilda Sophie Niemeyer Bronze:  Eva Ronja Buddenkotte &  Dandara Camilo   women's +78kg Gold:  Lee Hyeon Ji Silver:  Celia Cancan Bronze:  Chihiro Yamaguchi &  Safa Soliman   men's -100kg Gold:  Mukhammadsodik Sodikov Silver:  Nozomu Miki Bronze:  Azhdar Baghirov &  Fares Mekhoukh   men's +100kg Gold:  Denis Batchaev Silver:  Kanan Nasibov Bronze:  Saba Kardava &  Ibrahim Tataroglu
    • 100 days to go until the first multi-sports games of the 2025
    • 11 medals out of 15 athletes. for whatever reason  we sent an incomplete team of 16 athletes (only 1 left for tomorrow) I wish I knew why  I can guess though   the result is indeed very good in such a competitive sport but lack of talent was never our problem in taekwondo. it was always there probably much more than any other country.    but the problem is the transition to the senior team. most of previous junior world champions never even made the senior team. (the new federation is doing better in this regard though)
