Russia-Ukraine Crisis Consequences in Sports

Recommended Posts

FIA didn't ban Russian & Belarussian drivers (the latter are virtually non-existent) from competing but Great Britain banned them from competing in their country so that probably means Nikita Mazepin won't take part in British GP later this season.

Clear job for the Haas team: show their full support for Mazepin every single time anything related to this is asked.

The BBC are saying Hass are going to sever ties with Mazepin. His dad is close to Putin.

That would most likely get the team expelled within a couple of weeks.

The team won't be expelled per se, they pulled the Uralkali sponsors brands during the last day of testing and they can always draft a test driver in place of Mazepin (currently Pietro Fittipaldi). The bigger question is whether the team could survive without a title sponsor. The most logical answer would be "no" hence team would collapse on its own unless they can find a last-minute replacement.

"Thank you for the work you did for us, but fuck you and see you never."

Right. If true, I hope we'll be getting rid of Haas soon.

FEI bans all Russian and Belarusian athletes starting March 6th.

Several Russians are entered for Lier this week, so they will compete, under no flag.

Not an expert on the matter but isn't Mazepin kinda a prick and an average racer pushed by his oligarch dad's money?

Honestly no sympathy with the guy then

Given Mazespin is by most accounts the least popular driver both on and off the grid I doubt this will create much of a splash. This might doom Haas financially, but it's not like the sanctions weren't in danger of doing that anyway.

    • Honestly, I think you guys have a much better chance of success here than we do. It's already difficult to maintain this sport, and with this ridiculous format this year, things have gotten even worse. Years and years participating in the elite and we haven't been able to evolve; it was just a waste.

    • Another weak result for our athletics team, which is typical; without Caio or Alisson, our chances of a medal in any high-level tournament are almost zero.   However, Juliana's result in the women's pole vault was a great 7th place. She is improving rapidly and still has a lot of room for growth.

    • some changes in the team and less importance to the sport, the two big teams until 2022/2023 ( and ) in south america started to decrease a lot and in the other hand the 3rd in South America () is growing a lot, is really impressive. We are currently the favourites for the LA2028 quota

    • What happened to Brazil's women's team? On the other hand it looks like Argentina may be the top South American team on the women's side. Defeating Spain, China and South Africa was unlikely up until this year
