Mark Arendz wins gold in men's 10km biathlon standing for Canada's 13th medal and 5th gold of these paralympics. This marks the first time that Canada has won more gold medals in the winter paralympics than the winter olympics from that same year since 1988.

 

Also para hockey team finally gets its first win against Korea and will finish 2nd in group A.

I've been not paying attention to curling - which I think has been good for me 😂.    Was delighted to see Arendz come back from his 4th place with a gold in the middle distance biathlon.

I swear to god our curlers are trying to lose.  Even after another bad game, an easy draw to tie in the 8th, comes up way short.  They won't even make the playoffs now in all likelihood.  I'm going to not watch the next game and see what happens.

Bad couple of days for our curling team, going from 4-0 to 4-3. We can only afford to lose 1 more game (in some scenarios we may have to win all three remaining games)

Some useless trivia. With Mollie Jepsen and Mark Arendz winning gold medals, I believe every athlete in the Sobeys commercial has won a gold medal at the Olympics/Paralympics this year. Jepsen and Arendz join Nurse, Poulin, Parrot and Weidemann.

      Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.

"It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," ⁠claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.

      Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
