Biathlon IBU Junior & Youth World Championships 2022

Recommended Posts

US with a good showing, three in the 20s.  Wes Campbell with 5 misses but only 1:56 behind.  He had the 6th fastest course time.  Congrats to Kulbin.  You have to sort of feel bad for the three who did not make the pursuit.  The two from Belgium were at least a min out of 60th place, one was almost 3 min.

Impressive that Germany won a medal in 5 out of the 6 races so far*. The german women are in a very good place. Crazy that the 3rd best talent (Moric) is the only girl who won 2 medals in 2 races so far.

* This is already the best result for Germany in terms of individual medals since 2014 (when they won 7 individual medals). The last time Germany won 8 or more  individual medals was in 2010 (when they won 8 individual medals).

2 races - 2 medals (2x silvers) for Borguľa was absolutely unexpected, especially his skiing in Utah is more than great.

Last night even with 3rd fastest skiing of all :yikes:

A lot of these youngsters don't progress from the youth ranks to the world cup. Most of them quit the sport within a few years. We had a lot of girls who were good in youth rankings but then quit after a season or two in the seniors. I hope the same does not happen with Lena and the others. Winning in this means nothing if you don't have a support structure to help their progress in the seniors. Big nations do ok, but then you have biathletes from Holland, Romania, Canada, Poland, Kazakhstan... who just disappear despite begin jwch champions.

Maybe if she won't be good enough to make the german team. Would still be a disgusting decision of course.

Why? Not the first one or last. If she doesn’t make German team, what is the problem? She seems to have both passports.

It is disgusting when people profit from the system of a certain country (financed by tax payers) and then compete for another country (that gets the rewards). Same is true in other areas as well. Every year there are many people who finish their medicine studies in Germany (financed by tax payers) and then go to Switzerland because they can earn more there, those are disgusting human beings. I also feel the same way about people who only live in certain places to dodge taxes (for example Alexander Zverev, Novak Djokovic or many formula 1 drivers), they are disgusting human beings as well and it is braindead to think that any of them feel patriotic. At least in sport (with the X per nation rule) you can argue that it is good when all the best athletes get to compete.

    • I think the Dutch men (especially in long distances) are simply not good enough. We've been leaders in long distances for decades, but we've always had great talents like De Jong, Romme, Bergsma, Kramer, and Roest. They're not around right now, so we're focusing more on short distances, but there's a certain Stolz who reigns supreme.   What I've noticed is that many newcomers (Jilek, Lubineaud etc) originally come from inline skating. The Netherlands should look into that too. We also need to be open to new training methods, like those of the Swede Nils Svensson, who won two gold medals in Beijing with a unique training regime.   Good luck with Ghiotto, I will definitely cheer for him: such a friendly person and a beautiful skater. He really deserves a gold medal.

    • The all Dutch men seemed out of form in Inzell. Could this mean some intense strength training during this period? Overall, I think that, the progress in the men's long-distance events has been incredible since last year and I have the impression that both Ghiotto and the Netherlands team haven't caught on to some new equipment updates? The times achieved this season by: Eitrem, Jilek, Lubinaud, Semyrunyyi and Davson are incredible in terms of time progress year by year. But considering the financial potential of the Netherlands, I'm surprised they could have to by left behind technologically? Unfortunately, this doesn't surprise me in Italy's case, as we don't even have a single indoor track to test our technological innovations – the one in Milan is currently inaccessible even to the hosts. Of course, if Italy were a normal country, who supported their own athletes, the track in Milan should have been available only for the Italian team for many months ago, where would be testing various innovations there, but unfortunately that is not the case, because we live where we live
