Asian Championships have started and we have seen some very inspiring performances.

I have been very much looking forward to watch :MYA Thet Htar Thuzar. Felt she got a great draw especially with Nozomi Okuhara in RD 1 which was anyday going to  be a walk in park, now tomorrow in RD2 she faces an unseeded player should win that one and may then run into Wang Zhiyi which is is a bit of 50:50 .

:VIENguyen thuy Linh was fantastic today needs proper training and coaching and should be in the other 10 in the world.

:JORtook a set against Hong Kong in one of the match which is nice

:NZL withdrew from Thomas Cup, :USA replaced them based on team rankings

OTOH, :BRA Ygor Coelho tweeted that it is unfair because there are no official "team rankings" and they should be in instead of USA since they're better placed than USA in Pan Am Cup

But how does Pan Am Cup placement matter? But, honestly how did :USA qualify. According to wiki, :HKG:NED:GUA (also :RUS) are ahead of :USA in the team rankings. Did others reject the reallocation?

Yeah that's just him being unhappy. BWF did not use their terms consistent enough and Ygor complained using his own interpretation (which is clearly wrong)

Others did reject the allocation. The first they asked is :AUS as the Oceania runner-up, but they rejected.

One player from Tahiti complained that their federation (as the semifinalist) were not invited by BWF.

And as there are no more Oceanian teams, they go to team rankings. I believe :HKG with the strict quarantine just don't see the trip worth it and :NED also won't bother going. It is interesting they did not mention :GUA in the press release, probably the shady BWF didn't even bother inviting them too...

Chinese head coach Zhang Jun first time revealed that Shi Yuqi was under one-year internal suspension because of his quitting on opponent's match point during Thomas Cup last year and subsequent quarrel with fans on internet. Shi Yuqi will be absent from most tournaments of this year including Thomas Cup and World Championships. The most optimistic scenario is that he will be back at November.

BWF World Tour 2023-2026 hosts announced:

- Super 1000 expanded to 4 with Malaysia Open getting the slot

- Super 750 expanded to 6, Singapore and India will be the new hosts

- Super 500 expanded to 9, and we have 3 new hosts in here: Canada, Finland, Australia

- Super 300 stays at 11, Hylo (Saarbrucken) Open and Orleans Masters upgraded to this category

Good news for the players: the top player commitment stays as it is

Super 100 and World Tour Finals hosts are still pending, apparently BWF set the bar too high for the Finals and no one bids for it

Pretty damn surprising to see Finland getting a Super 500. Awesome!

While the bidding process is not transparent (lol), Singapore has been planning it for a long time.

Finland used this argument in their proposal: "There is no Super 500 event in Europe, and we want to continue showing what we're capable of after hosting the Sudirman Cup and European continental events".

China actually submitted a bid for Super 500 tier too but didn't made it

Chinese player Shi Yuqi accepts the WCH invitation and Chen Long rejects it. Chinese badminton association lifted the internal suspension of Shi Yuqi thanks to his "good behavior" and "good attitude". My own interpretation of this late acception and rejection swap is because that Chen Long is going to retire soon and giving up the unexpectedly postponed Asian Games at home. With the disappointment of recent men's single tournament's result and to avoid the humiliation on WCH, Chinese association ultimately decides to lift Shu Yuqi's suspension.
