Looking at the Paris quota breakdown, for the non-core sports (breaking, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing), given USA will be expecting to medal in skateboarding and surfing, I can't see them being dropped.

I think those three are already approved to be on the core LA 2028 program, before we even begin to talk about what added sports there might be.

Which nations are active in flag football? It's not a sport that I'm familiar with.

Austria (with 3 world championships), Mexico, Panama, Italy, Canada, and Denmark, looking at recent WC results

IFAF Flag Football World Championship - Wikipedia

Its basically American football with no tackling or helmets  - you stop the play by pulling a velcroed "flag" or strip off the offensive player who is in possession of the football at his/her beltline.   At least that's how it was in my school days.

All these new sports are being considered, while they want to drop legacy sports... Weightlifting is one of the most iconic Olympic sports, there must be a solution to save it. Like, I would even take the option to get rid of the weight classes and have only one men and one women competition (essentially only the highest weight class) instead of completely removing from the program. This isn't a sport that can exist outside of the Olympics, unlike boxing. Same for modern pentathlon. IOC must realize that they will literally kill MP if it's out of the program. There goes a sport with 100 years of history.

There must be other solutions. Like only including new sports that will justify an increase in the budget. If it's such a net positive decision to include cricket, just increase the number of the athlete quotas. Those Indian broadcasting rights can pay for the increase in the budget.

Multiple media outlets in UK reporting that T20 cricket is "very likely" to feature on the 2028 Olympic programme. With the format being a pool of 5 teams for both men and women.

Qualification would be based on world rankings so would include :IND:NZL:PAK:RSA and :GBR for men and :IND:NZL:AUS:RSA and :GBR for women (always assuming Scottish cricket don't raise any stupid objections) If they reserve spot for :USA as home nation, then :RSA would lose out in both cases.

It looks like this is purely being driven by money - if cricket is included, the value of broadcast rights in India could increase to 10 times their current value - but it would eat up about 110 athlete quotas.

Given it has to be a pretty safe bet that baseball/softball is also going to return to the programme and that is going to require around 230 athlete quotas, it begs the questions, where do these 340 quotas come from?

Looking at the Paris quota breakdown, for the non-core sports (breaking, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing), given USA will be expecting to medal in skateboarding and surfing, I can't see them being dropped. Likewise, I think sport climbing is becoming established in the programme so would be unlikely to be dropped. This means the only sport not likely to return in Los Angeles is breaking but that only frees up 36 quotas. Boxing, Weightlifting and Modern Pentathlon aren't officially on the schedule yet so you'd have to assume that the quotas will come from those 3 sports. Modern pentathlon probably joins breaking as a goner - freeing up another 72 quotas but that would still leave 200 short.

Losing 23 individual medal events to be replaced by 4 team medals would seem to be a bit extreme.

I'm assuming Indian media rights have allready been sold for 2028 (if anyone can confirm) and in any case, IOC will bank the extra revenues, not LA 2028.

From a Los Angeles point, there is little to nothing to gain, and there is a cricket stadium to built somewhere... Make little sense tbh. And the quotas issue makes it literraly impossible.

The only solutions that exist are radicals : e.g. splitting the summer OG, going for a more lose organisation like the European Championships, this kind of things.

or simply do not try to fix what isn´t broken ...

Until Rio 2016 Olympics (for me) everything was fine and (almost) perfectly working, what has been happening since then (Agenda 2020/Herr president Tommy B. inventions) is a complete disaster (for me), killing day by day everything what I loved about the Olympics (for me) and unfortunately, I already know that we are far from over

Tell me you have zero idea about cricket (or field hockey) without telling me you have zero idea about cricket (or field hockey).

I admit, I have zero idea about cricket

(zero and half let say about field hockey - I really tried to watch it, trust me, but did not appeal me, sorry found it extremely slow, messy and incredibly unnecessarily long (both the pitch and the play time) to my taste)

the only thing I noticed about Cricket is the crazy long amount of time needed for a game, quite hard to understand how this is even considered to be at the OG, while in all other sports the different federations are inventing how to shorten the events to fit with the new "lack-of-attention-generation" aimed by the IOC... but ok. Look, I have nothing against Cricket, If they want and wish, Ok, no issue bro.Go ahead and add it to the games, play a whole month if you want... but do not sacrify other more traditional and more Olympic fitting sports/quotas because of that..

Yes, I know, I can imagine viewers in India, where the sport is super popular will not have problem to watch it.. I just doubt it will be the same in the other parts of the world though... Personally I would even prefer more that Kabadi thing that have more Olympic potential to attract attention worldwidely than ... cricket.

In difficult times, professional politicians should rule, not celebrities like Trump or Zelensky. Macron is probably the one I like the most out of this group in Europe/Atlantic World right now, while Obama and even Bush Jr. were statesmen compared to Trump.

    • few observations on the first major tournament:   live score board (on screen) needs some improvements such as: the fencing piste colours are consistently wrong between the scoreboard and real game (the red and green colours) shooting screen in combined phase is very bad, time is stuck or continue even when the player finished, also the green (good shot dots) are not always working at the beginning I didn't like the score board on the left hand side but later I got used to it which is not bad in my opinion now. showing the the round in fencing will be beneficial to understand is it QF, R 16 ..etc and expect the score accordingly the fencing screen in the left hand side is confusing  (location of the score compared to name is not very clear) and it's more confusing when you notice that the colour is wrongly switched (see first point) Obstacles is fun to watch (I wasn't expecting that) and young athletes are taking it to very high leve,. also surprised with some good actions from experienced athletes such as Belaud, Shabaan & Gulyas.   Equestrian was not fair but more thrilling, here Obstacles is more fair and not boring. Personally, I liked Equestrian more but I can understand why obstacles is more favourable for some others.   new scoring of fencing is better, even difference in points was adjusted to become more close to swimming weight (main deciders now are obstacles and combined).   waiting Fencing World Ranking list to know how does it work and how they calculate this new ranking.
