So we have straight semi finals for the men, but not for the women ?

No, it's 1vs4 and 2vs3 to decide the finalists. There are also 5vs8 and 6vs7 races from which those teams can qualify for the bronze medal match if they are faster than semifinal losers.

It was a disappoiting result, but we have a young and inexperienced men's team this time because of Post Denmark (Tour de Denmark), where a lot of our good track cyclists compete.

Smart race by Italy, two medals for Italy in team pursuit in 2020?

Could someone maybe tell me what happened with Viviani's teeth?

we all hope that...but it's gonna be really difficult, especially if our politicians can't fix the Montichiari Velodrome question (it's fresh news that our NOC would eventually pay 1.8 million euro to repair the coverage and run the activity in the next 2 seasons, but until the burocracy makes its course -and it could take months- it's only words, not facts)...

our quartets, for instance, to prepare this championship  trained in the last week 2 days in Fiorenzuola (near Piacenza), then they went 3 days in Pordenone (which is towards Triest and Udine) and finally 2 days in Milan at the old Vigorelli velodrome (and all those tracks are outdoor and 400m long...moreover, Fiorenzuola and Pordenone are made by concrete...at least Milan is a wooden track)...

with this kind of training it's just a miracle what they did last night (which still is not even close to their best times)...

but if all things are fixed, then there's a chance to get a couple of Olympic medals (especially in the women's event, since our girls are still very young and not so experienced...so, I guess they have more margin to improve than the boys, who are all veterans -even Ganna, despite his young age overall)...

p.s. no idea about Viviani's teeth...:dunno:

Number of indoor velodromes in Great Britain in 1993 - 1 (120m long track)

Number of indoor velodromes in Great Britain in 2018 - 6 ( 5 250m tracks)

The success because of this is not a surprise.

It doesn't necessaraly works that way though. Every four years, we open a new velodrome in France, every olympics our results are getting shittier and sitthier

Not necessarily, but to be fair: one can assume that when you go from 1 crappy track to 5 modern tracks and combine that with a huge PR machine and huge funding, it does deliver some noticeable results :p

    • I'm also reminded as I know Canadians are painfully aware that if figures hadn't been a part of the 1984 Olympics, then Brian Orser would have won gold.  Hamilton could have finished 4th in the free skate that year and still beat Orser who finished 7th in the figures

    • I would like to see the Summer Games in Italy after long time ago: 1960, especially since the last times we have only had winter editions, but with this political class it will be difficult First of all, such games should serve to promote and strengthen local sport, and we have a problem with that. If I remember good, that, 1960 was a very successful year for us in sports - maybe some normal people were still in power in that time, no idiots, like now?
    • If a credible bid had come across the IOC's radar it would have been awarded by now imo. Which western country is going to submit a good bid and get the games?
