I wouldn't be so sure...Ledecka's run was excellent and these slaloms aren't known to be that hard (relatively speaking), so it might be hard to make up as much time as one would on the regular slalom. I do see Holdener/Gisin as favourites, but wouldn't be at all suprised now if Ledecka takes it.

today's slalom was set by the US coach and obviously he made an exception to that rule to ensure Shiffrin's chances...

unfortunately for them, it didn't go how they would have liked, but still, this slalom run was a true one, even more difficult than the 1st run of the actual slalom race...

Another thing, slalom courses in the combined being set by coaches of specific athletes is just bullshit. The whole thing of coaches setting courses even at major championships is nonsense and already unfair from the beginning, but alright.

I wanted to ask a question about that long time ago. I heard that a lot from the Eurosport commentators. it was just hard to believe. how come such a thing happens. at first I thought maybe that's part of the host nation thing. but apparently that's not the case

@phelps how come they decide who set the course ? randomly, is there a draw or something ? or whoever smiles better gets that ? :d

Random draw between coaches of the Top 7 WC Start List athletes.

It's a random draw, with the main prize of the lottery of course being to have a free competitive advantage for the races that actually matter most (Olympics and world championships).

It'd be kind of like Formula 1 needing a deciding race to see who will be champion, and so they make a draw between the teams, with the winner deciding on which track they'll race the deciding race :d

thanks guys :yes

well you always here something new. that's one of the dumbest things ever. is it really hard for FIS officials to set the courses themselves and make it more fair ?

What a run that was from Gisin. She appeared to be floating on the snow. :jawdrop:

Crazy to think Shiffrin still has only three Olympic medals total. Despite all the expectations, time and time again it seems emulating Janica's feat from Salt Lake is next to impossible.

    • Shades of 1998 with  and  in the same group but this time it's really a terrible draw for the Thistles. I recall Brazil and Scotland played in the same group in 1974 and 1990 too so that's quite a high probabiliy rate.

    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
    • One of the worst possible draw for us. Group really easy but having to face  or  in the Round of 32 is devastating.
