Did someone turn down a quota to get a 3rd USA spot in the women's 500m?  That obviously would have changed the landscape of the trials when Erin Jackson finished 3rd and Brittany Bowe give up her spot for Jackson to be 1 of the 2 skaters

Some reallocations took place.

It also seems as if the provisional quota file was incorrect/incomplete as the number of quota per distances was mostly lower than the actual event quota according to the original qualification document. For example, the provisional quota list had 27 entry quota's on the women's 500m, even though the qualification document stated that the maximum number of skaters on the women's 500m would be 30. As a result, a lot of reserves have been added.

As a result:

  • :ARG, :LAT & :ROU are now definitely in.
  • :BEL Sandrine Tas had one quota (mass start) and how has four (500m, 1.000m, 1.500m and mass start)
  • :SUI could have had 3 quotas on the women's side, but only decided to keep the 1 quota they already had on the mass start.
  • :GER could have 3 quota on the men's 1.000m, but now only have 1.
  • :TPE refusing the quota on the men's 1.000m means they will have no male skaters in Beijing.

In total there are 27 countries with at least one confirmed quota (2018: 29 countries).

Are we sure :TPE refused a quota? https://focustaiwan.tw/sports/202201190016

"

Two more athletes are currently on a reserve waiting list and will know if they qualify for the Winter Olympics by Saturday, the Sports Administration said."

Surely these are the speed skaters

:TPE had priority over :NOR on the men’s 1.000m.

Could it be that the maximum number of quota was reached and that :TPE was the first one missing out, whereas :NOR can enter an athlete that already had a quota on another distance?

I think it's the reason. You can only get a reallocation quota if not add an extra person.

And I'm sure Brittany Bowe knew that when she gave her spot after the trials to Erin Jackson knowing there would be a good chance the US would get a 3rd skater entered.

Looking forward to that final.  It'll be the morning of the Super Bowl here and a very reasonable 9am ET.

    • Well, I see that the national competition between mixed doubles and also men increased. Also actually amongst women, too. Before it was mostly Kubeskova team that participated in some international events. This year, Synackova team did really well in the pre-qualification just the final qualification was not that good. But curling is about details. Generally, I am glad to see that there is really much higher competition than it was 10 years ago. And seeing Chabickovsky a Zelingerova making it to the Olympics in such a young age can be really promising for their career as curling is becoming more professional, as we see Grand Slams and other big tournaments.    As for now, I think that in Milano Team Klima and mixed doubles can make really interesting results. After all, they will finish in top 10 so just qualifying to the Games is already a huge achievement

    • Please do not bring this idea to Sindo
    • Tahli/Dean    Probably just as disappointed as the Australians on here are
    • Gotta feel for  defending world bronze medalists, but couldn't make it to the Olympics
    • with a steal of 3 in the 8th end,  can't make the last shot to stay alive.
    • Oh yea.  Seemed like they were starting to get some less than elite pitchers, but the commits they've had in the last 12 hours have been stellar.  Now the staff feels like an embarrassment of riches.  They have 3 elite starters and a bunch of guys that can eat innings.  Thrilled what Mark DeRosa has been able to put together.
    • It looks like you guys will be juuuuust fine.   Tarik Skubal, Logan Webb, Joe Ryan and Nolan McLean all committed within the last couple of days.
    • Yay for no disqualifications! Thanks @OlympicIRL for all the work! Getting close.
