Speed Skating at the Winter Olympic Games Beijing 2022

They could also just cut out the gendered team events in short track and ski jumping to save a few quotas. Could bring max athletes down to 4 per gender for country.

Removing the best event in the winter Olympics (the men’s and women’s relays in short track) should not even be discussed :P

Ski jumping and nordic combined can probably be cut to four by country, but that’s a bit of a cut on paper only since big countries will still bring an alternate anyway.

Edit: we can fix all the gender equality issues (including doing things like adding four women in bobsleigh and having 12 women hockey teams w/ 25 players) while slightly increasing the athlete quota in sports like speed skating and figure skating while keeping the athlete quota under 3200. The IOC's insistence on keeping it to 2900 is sort of an issue at this point.

Or finally agree to a wave system with the scheduling.

At some point I want to sit down and figure out how many athletes I think are needed for the winger Olympics, but it’a absolutely higher than 2900.

Most likely, using speed skating as an example, 192 athletes competed at the 2019 World Championships (the one before COVID) while only 166 are allowed to compete here.

Two big omissions on the men's side: Alex Boisvert-Lacroix and Vincent De Haître (though I really don't think there was anywhere to put De Haître on the team based on how the rest of Canada's middle distance skaters performed this season).

They certainly have the potential as the last World Cup season has shown.

I was pulling for De Haitre but it makes sense, I guess he didn't have enough time between Tokyo and now to prepare.

Dai Dai N’tab, Beau Snellink, Melissa Wijfje and Merel Conijn will be on-site alternates for the :NED team in Beijing. They can be substituted until the day of the first race for their respective gender.

Hoping for more than a few, haha.  One of, if not the, best speed skating teams all around Canada has put together.  Very excited to see what they can do.
