:FRA keeps its skiff quotas or will they be redistributed?

:FRA would be guaranteed quotas for both the men's single sculls and the women's single sculls but these would only come into play if France were unable to qualify any boats through World Champs or the other qualifying regattas. Given strong likelihood that France will qualify a handful of boats, the quotas for single sculls will be reallocated to the final qualifying regatta.

:NZL will not be defending their Olympic title in the Men's Eight or the silver medal they won in the Women's Eight as they have decided not to send a crew for these events at the Last Chance Regatta.

New Zealand Rowing holding trials this week to decide whether to field boats at the LCR for Women's Pair, Women's Quadruple Sculls and Men's Quadruple Sculls.

Following completion of their trials, :NZL have confirmed 3 crews will go forward to the last chance regatta:

Womens Pair: Alana Sherman / Kate Haines - Not a huge surprise given the paring finished 13th at last year's world championships so could/should be in with a shout of getting 1 of the 2 quotas available.

Women's Quadruple Sculls: Isabella Carter / Kathryn Glen / Georgia Nugent-O'Leary / Laura Glen - Didn't compete in the event in '23 WC or in the world cup series. Nugent-O'Leary competed in Tokyo and finished 8th in W4x.

Men's Quadruple Sculls: Ben Mason / Flynn Watson / Zack Rumble / Jack Ready - As with the women, they didn't compete at World Champs or on the world cup. so difficult to gauge performance.

:USA 3-week long Olympic Selection Camp kicks off next weekend.

Not entirely sure how the selection process is due to play out - can't access the US Rowing selection document - however from alternate sources, it looks like the camp will be used to determine the crews going to Paris in the W2x, LW2x, W4-, M4- and W8+.

The camp will also select the men's eight crew which will go to the final Olympic qualification regatta.

Crew selection will also happen for W4x and M4x to determine who will go forward to the Olympic Trials in April - the winner of which will then go forward to the final Olympic qualification regatta.

Canada will only enter the men's eights and women's quad at the final qualifiers.

Canada is really going all in on the men's eights - there will be no male rowers on the team if they fail to qualify O.o

    • Probably 0% but in 1939 Germans reached the outskirts of Warsaw after only eight days (the border was more to the east than it is now i.e. they had less ground to cover). The ugly truth is NATO would most likely bide their time in response so the entire eastern Poland would be a battle field for a while.
    • What was the Italian conflict? I can't quite remember.
    • And is there any chance that the Polish president would have escape within the first 2-3 days of war? Probably 0%. In 1939, the authorities escaped, but after an attack from 2 sides, the first being the German attack.
    • Hmm, and were they wanted to capture Kyiv in three days? Since middle of 2022, their run has been slow, so I don't think they'll be using any rapid maneuvers on the future. They surprised Ukraine at the very beginning on the war and were close to success. Zelenskyy only needed to flee the country in the first 2 or 3 days of the war. And Russia could have counted on this happening, because Zelenskyy wasn't an experienced politician or soldier and could have do however they wanted. In my opinion, Zelensky's role in Putin's plan ruined everything for them- he, as a populist and inexperienced man, was to escape from Kiev in the first few days of the war. Then Russia would have put in one of its own- Yanukovych? and Europe and the USA would probably have approved that.
    • Fortifications could only work for illegal immigrants but not against drones. We're wasting missiles worth millions of euro to shoot down drones worth 10k. It's anyone's guess how quickly Russians would reach Vistula River if the invasion came from two sides (Kaliningrad & Belarus). It would be days and not weeks...
    • Shocking news 😔 We just saw him competing 2 days ago in Annecy.
    • Yes, and Ukraine is very important to Putin- far more important than the Baltic states, Georgia or even Poland. Without Ukraine, the restoration of the former USSR will be impossible for Putin. Another thing is that with pro-Russian Ukraine, Poland will have its entire eastern and northern border (Kaliningrad) with unfriendly countries except Lithuania, so it will basically have to militaries the all entire eastern part of Poland and build various fortifications there.
    • After all, it's one thing to dislike someone, even to destroy something (if it remains a rumor, which it usually is), and quite another to steal money... In the Italian national team there was the Wierer vs. Vittozzi conflict, in the polish team in Sochi 2014 there were accusations of various strange things: destroying a skies, rifle, etc., but theft is a serious crime, not just some rumors.
    • Stalin got Karelian Peninsula and Viborg and that was enough. Land invasion from Finland made no sense 60 yrs ago and makes even less sense in 2020s.   Finland isn't that important strategically even when it comes to Baltic Sea. U need to control Danish straits to control the Baltic. Warsaw Pact had an invasion plan of Denmark for this one reason.    Likewise Mediterranean Sea was no priority for Stalin. SU wasn't a naval power back in the day.
