First post after months lurking on this site :D

Young :ESP pair Tania Moreno Avdeeva & Daniela Álvarez Mendoza just qualified for Olympics by reaching QF in Espinho tournament, Spanish presence in beach volley in Paris locked.

Interesting situation in Dutch beachvolleyball. Three teams still compete for two Olympic spots. Our best team Boermans/de Groot are struggling the last tournaments. Our eldest team Brouwer/Meeuwsen didn't play on their usual high level this year. Immers/van de Velde is our youngest team, but the last weeks they reach a very good level.

After Espinho:

:NED Immers/van de Velde - 8880 points (lowest result 460 points)

:NED Brouwer/Meeuwsen - 8600 points (lowest result 600 points)

:NED Boermans/de Groot - 8460 points (after 11 results - with their entrance in the last Elite 16 in Ostrava, they will end with at least 8920 points).

With only Stare Jablonski and Ostrava to go still a beautiful battle to watch.

Situation between the Dutch beachvolleyballteams after Stare Jablonski:

:NED Boermans/de Groot  - 9180 (lowest 460)

:NED Immers/van de Velde - 8880 (lowest 460)

:NED Brouwer/Meeuwsen - 8600 (lowest 600)

Brouwer/Meeuwsen need at least a final four in Ostrava, otherwise they will miss the Olympics for sure.

:NED men’s Olympic race

Boermans/de Groot: 9180 pts (1200, 1000, 960, 900, 760, 760, 760, 720, 600, 600, 460, 460)

Immers/Van De Velde: 8880 pts (1100, 900, 900, 800, 800, 760, 760, 600, 600, 600, 600, 460)

Brouwer/Meeuwsen: 8600 pts (1000, 800, 760, 760, 760, 760, 760, 600, 600, 600, 600, 600)

Boermans/de Groot qualify for Paris if they achieve a 9th place finish or better, or Brouwer/Meeuwsen don’t win gold in Ostrava. If neither of those things happen, they’ll also need to hope that Immers/Van De Velde don’t finish 5th or better.

Immers/VDV qualify for Paris with a semifinal finish or better, or if Brouwer/Meeuwsen don’t make the semifinals.

Brouwer/Meeuwsen need to reach the semifinals and hope that Immers/VDV are 13th to qualify for Paris. If Immers/VDV reach the round of 12, they’ll need a silver medal. If Immers/VDV reach the quarterfinals, they’ll need a gold medal.

:USA men’s Olympic race for the 2nd quota

Budinger/Evans: 8400 pts (800, 800, 760, 760, 760, 720, 680, 680, 640, 600, 600)

Crabb/Brunner: 7860 pts (1120, 800, 800, 760, 600, 600, 600, 600, 600, 460, 460, 460)

Crabb/Brunner need to podium, and hope that Budinger/Evans don’t finish 5th or better if they want to qualify for Paris. If they finish 5th, Crabb/Brunner would need to win the gold medal. Budinger/Evans can secure their Olympic ticket with a semifinal appearance.

:SUI women’s Olympic race for the 2nd quota

Esmee/Zoe: 7900 pts (1000, 800, 800, 760, 680, 680, 600, 600, 600, 460, 460, 460)

Verge-Depre/Mader: 7580 pts (800, 760, 760, 680, 680, 640, 600, 600, 600, 460, 460, 460)

Verge-Depre/Mader need to reach the semifinals to qualify for Paris. As there’ll probably be a potential 2nd round matchup between the two in qualification, there’s no other scenarios.

:GER women’s Olympic race for the 2nd quota

Ludwig/Lippmann: 7580 points (760, 760, 760, 760, 720, 640, 600, 600, 600, 460, 460, 460)

Ittlinger/Borger: 7360 points (800, 760, 760, 680, 680, 640, 600, 600, 460, 460, 460, 460)

Both teams will take on each other in the first round of qualification. If Ludwig/Lippmann win, they book their ticket to the Olympics. If Ittlinger/Borger win, they’ll need a 5th or better to qualify for Paris.

    • So 5 of Australia's top 6 current WTA players were not born in Australia. Only Gadecki was.   At least Birrell lived most of her life there and Joint has an Australian parent. Even Saville at least eventually married an Aussie even though when she first got citizenship it was a total joke.   Tomljanovic and Kasatkina playing for Australia is so weird. Also it's quite pathetic a country like Australia, with so many resources for tennis, has to keep naturalizing players because they can't produce their own talents...

    • It comes down to what is taught in Poland about the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. The Union of Lublin isn't shown as unfavorable for Lithuania as it really was. A lot of the southern territories of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was "given" to Poland but it was actually stolen by Poles, the Polish language overpowered the Lithuanian one among the elites, the common coin was Polish-based. At one point, the PLC starts to get treated like one big country, with Vilnus as one of the major cities of Poland. The Vilnius University shown as an important Polish university, Mickiewicz calling Lithuania his home while writing in Polish, etc. The whole stuff after the World War One is barely touched in the high school when barely anyone cares about history anyway, I guess most people don't even know it. With this lack of the knowledge, Vilnus is one of the lost Polish cities, just like Lviv. The current animosities are down to the early 2010s and Grybauskaitė being the president of Lithuania - when there was the increase of the Lithuanian subjects taught in the Polish schools, troubles with Polish surnames, places' and streets' names. The Polish hooligans were also quick to pick it up. To be honest, Lithuania isn't looked down at but people don't understand why Lithuania has the right not to like Poland.
    • Maciusiak is a budget option for the 'lean years' that are set to kick in. This was planned for many years once Stoch, Kubacki & Żyła retire (or become too old to have good results). We don't have any juniors and the development has been screwed for many seasons now. Results should get even worse especially if Wąsek suddenly drops off w/o Thurnbichler (as he was the only one who clearly profited under TT's coaching).
