:INA Indonesia is establishing diplomatic ties and normalizing their relationship with :ISR Israel.

Interesting to see the biggest Muslim majority country do this while Israel is losing a lot of support in the West.

Nope we aren't doing that. As long as the two state solution is not fulfilled, there won't be :INA - :ISR diplomatic relations. It's the stance for 75 years and won't change in the foreseeable future.

In 3 days, the third largest democracy in the world will hold elections...

surat-suara-paslon-pemilu-2024.jpeg?w=50

For the last two elections (2014 & 2019), we only have two candidates and the polarization is too extreme. Each side fiercely accused the other side of destroying the country and if they win then Indonesia will be saved (obviously), but then we saw a surprise move from the winner Joko Widodo to appoint the losing candidate Prabowo and Sandiaga as ministers. This time we have three candidates:

1. Anies Baswedan (Former governor of Jakarta) / Muhaimin Iskandar (Chairman of PKB)

Bringing the agenda of "Change" and "Justice for All". Muhaimin's selection as the running mate Anies created the unlikely coalition of moderate Islamist party PKB and the more right-wing Islamic parties PKS and Ummat. This selection also caused Democrats (the party with Mercedes-Benz looking logo) to switch allegiance to Prabowo. Anies himself is an independent politician and was a rector of a private university. With his high academic statute, he is generally more liked with those who had a higher education as he speaks with data a lot in debate and allows students to directly express their aspirations to him. However, the 'justice for all' jargon is a bit in question especially since their main supporters are Islamist organizations. Another policy to take note is they plan to discontinue the construction of the new capital of Indonesia.

2. Prabowo Subianto (Minister of Defence) / Gibran Rakabuming Raka (Mayor of Surakarta)
Former army general Prabowo and the incumbent president's son Gibran is the most surprising pair for this election (imagine something like Trump is running with Biden's son). Almost failed to join the election as Gibran isn't old enough according to the rules but an amendment from the Constitutional Court headed by Gibran's uncle finally allows them to do so. With the agenda of "Continuity" and "Golden Indonesia 2045", they seek to continue whatever President Widodo's has envisioned including the new capital. They also mainly campaigned "downstreaming policy" so Indonesia can process its rich resources with less participation of foreign countries. Their coalition is the biggest and included PSI, a party that suddenly appointed Gibran's younger brother, causing critics to label them as nepo babies. Prabowo's critics also pointed out his involvement in East Timor atrocities and activist kidnappings during Suharto's dictatorship, but he dismissed that as he is now not trigger-happy like in the past, proved by heavy AI aided campaign arts portraying him as a cute old man.

3. Ganjar Pranowo (Former governor of Central Java) / Mahfud MD (Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs)

Their main agenda is "Enhancement" of Indonesia's current condition. Ganjar's tenure as a governor is reminiscent of incumbent president Widodo's style of visiting small alleys or wet markets to know the real problems faced by the people. On the other hand, Mahfud MD is a law professor and had served in all branches of the government (parliament member, minister, and chief justice), very popular among the people and seen as incorruptible. The problem is their coalition is mainly carried by PDIP (the party with a bull head - the largest party in the parliament) whose leader Megawati Soekarnoputri (former president 2001-2004) is deeply unpopular but very powerful, leading to concerns that Ganjar will be just a puppet president. Ganjar himself was embroiled in a controversy regarding the construction of a stone quarry by the central government amidst the rejection of the residents in the impacted area which ended with military brutality to some villagers.

Any prediction on who will win? All opinion surveys puts Prabowo/Gibran leading in the race, causing some people mocking these survey institutions as "surepays"

Polls closed at 21.00 and so the first exit polls can now be published, and they're quite a shocker. Absolutely massively good picture for PVV of Geert Wilders: a staggering 35 seats, 9 more than leftist PvdA/GL and 12 more than ruling centre-right VVD. Damn.

Of course it's only exit polls, but it's usually not like the actual result is different by 5+ seats.

And expect Indonesians starting to pay more attention to Dutch politics, especially after Wilders once said that Indonesians were the ones who should apologize to NL because of those battles happened in 1945-1950 (and ofc criticizing Rutte’s apology on the same topic)

Saw a post in another community, but now I’m curious…

What do you guys call the action (normally done by kids/teenagers) where someone knocks on a door and runs away before the person can answer it.

In the US, at least in California, this would be called a “ding-dong ditch.”

In Indonesia, it's called bel iseng ("mischief bell") because doorbells are seen as novelty for kids from poorer neighborhoods. Knocking doors maybe a bit unusual since people here often just hanging around in front of their houses with doors wide open during the day (unless you live in a gated community). I think the last time I saw kids doing this to my house was 8 or 9 years ago, I think kids nowadays prefer to play those tower defense games with their phones lol

There's no political party in the region with a left, centre, right or any other ideology or a political compass. They're just a bunch of morons, pimps, drug dealers, terrorists and white collar criminals looking every bit of power for themselves.

Pretty much the same in Indonesia, except you replace the drug dealer part with "coal/palm oil magnate"

On the outside you see Nationalist vs Islamist battle but at the inside no one in the party really cared about any ideologies.

For the upcoming election, we have some major parties partnering with their sworn enemies from the last 10 years... People who fanatically support a famous politician today must deal with their idol partnering with the son of their most hated rival politician

For the SEA Games closing ceremony, there is a 'do and don't' list for the spectators and one of the rules is "sit down and respect the leader when the leader is giving a speech"

On the other side of the world, :THA also had an election.

The anti-military and pro-Constitutional reform Move Forward Party is neck-to-neck with Pheu Thai which is led by Thaksin’s daughter.

The military-aligned parties are clearly not doing well, hopefully they don’t launch another coup…

I believe since a short while, TikTok is (finally) being banned from the phones of government employees here, and I'm fairly sure military personell was already strictly forbidden from using it on military premises and devices (as they should).

Hmmm looks like another Dutch colonization isn't bad, coz I can't stand seeing a lot of government employees use TikTok like their life depend on it

Well this is a combination between Sports and politics but Sergey richter was forced to choose between not competing or competing without his rifle and and any other Israeli identification in a competition held in Indonesia, this a blow in his path towards Paris 2024 and maybe a peek to the U19 WC in football…

Yeah when I saw he was initially registered, I was arranging to watch him with some friends lol

But in the end, the organizers just sticks with the gov stance of allowing Israelis to compete without any trace of country identifiers (no room for negotiation especially when shooting federation is controlled by the Army).

Curious how they're planning to prove that other than being pervs and catching people red...well, handed.

The law stated that only parents (if unmarried) and spouse (for the married) are the ones who can lodge a report... so you should be safe unless you have a feud with your parents (and then they decided to be petty) or your parents are a part of vigilantes checking on people's morals. The other article being passed is the real danger, the one that forbids people of opposite sex living together...

I think Western media are too focused on the sex part, forgetting there are articles preventing people for criticizing the government in the name of protecting government institutions from defamation. It is basically allowing Orban-style rule in Indonesia...

Technically the president haven't signed it (won't be effective until 2025 even if he signs it today) and I hope he remembered these same sets of proposed law were met with strong rejection in 2019 (and now the parliament passed it with funny excuses such as "we have to move on from these Dutch penal codes"). There is a way to appeal in the Constitutional Court, but people have less trust to them nowadays

Congratulations Brazilians for booting Bolso out. It probably won’t be an easy term for Lula with the parliament composition and the damage done in the last 4 years, but yeah at least the main target is out

More effective how? :p

Well from my own experience in Indonesian elections :p

It's about "us" or "them", so if the margin in the second round is thin then fraud allegation will be more believable and with some incitement you can start a big demonstration. If you're defeated in the first round, less people will take you seriously. Of course Brazil and Indonesia is different.. Just sharing my thoughts

Think 3 months in Aarhus municipal council is a bit too little to make major changes for the World. :p Hope to be able to do something for Aarhus, though!

But thanks!

Congratulations to you!

You can start from a small thing, such as releasing a press release that Ceres Arena in Aarhus has nothing to do with Indonesian chocolate sprinkles brand

In an attempt to further "control" the internet, Indonesian government are forcing digital service providers to register on government database (and give government even more rights to order removal of any contents they don't like) and threaten to block basically everything on the Internet if they didn't comply 20 July.

The definition of "digital service providers" in this messed-up regulation is a person/entity who owns a system that includes payment/transaction or process personal information. Millions of websites obviously fall in this category and basically the government is demanding the whole net to register. So if @Sindodoesn't register to the Information Ministry by 20 July, this forum will be blocked in Indonesia

Of course this is clearly a scare tactic in hopes of extorting tax from foreign tech giants and has always been proposed by the stupid minister for the last 2 years, but this is the first time they actually set a deadline. Interesting to see what will happen in 4 days

So far only two popular international services have registered: Tiktok and Spotify.

Fast forward 2 months, after initial block with Paypal and some game marketplaces nothing significant happened since then...

What happened is the announcement of fuel price rise and everyone is occupied enough with that, so the Information Ministry is saved from relentless online abuse and they can plan the next shady things... Happy ending.

Well not really :p

Recently the government is having a headache due to the discovery of personal data in government database for sale in the dark web. Moreover a person called Bjorka recently leaked various Indonesian top politicians data (including the Minister of Information) and some people were having fun sending messages to the politicians. The Minister of Information later stopped using his number, prompting more ridicule from the people.

Now police is searching for this Bjorka guy.. They just mistakenly arrested a man selling drinks at a market (who don't even have a computer). And Bjorka having more and more cult-like followers on Telegram.

This is like having a cheap rip-off of DeathNote's Kira cult in your own country (but nobody died from heart attack)
