Yes, funny how nobody cries over the truly racist organization of Saint Louis 1904.   Yes, the 1936 were shadowed by Nazi propaganda; so were the 1968 with the Tlatelolco massacre, the 1980

Here are the first two parts of a series of articles I've written on the 1980 Moscow Olympics.  https://theolympians.co/2020/07/19/the-1980-moscow-olympics-part-1-the-american-boycott/ https://th

Olympics at Sports Reference got closed today.   I can't help but feel responsible because I asked for one correction yesterday and perhaps reminded them about their intent to close the site

We (Sofia) are planning a candidature for the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics. Our sports minister said things were very positive after a long talk with the IOC last week.

weren't this games planned to be held in 2025? I read somewhere that IOC was planning to have an Olympics (senior or youth) every year, so the youth should be moved both to odd years

They were but the IOC scrapped the planned year change last year, hence why the next Summer Youth Olympics will be held in 2022, not 2023 as originally planned.

Quite interesting article.

The so-called "European sports model" has been under pressure in decades. International sport and sport athletes are commercial products. We are far from Coubertin's vision/idea about sport being a competition between pure amateurs. IOC and NOC's have already adapted many free-market mechanisms in their organisations, and professional sport will probably become more and more commercially over the next decades.

Rather funny coming from the head of an organisation that makes it impossible to buy tickets for their events if you don't have the right brand of credit card, or that won't allow people drinking the wrong brand of soda.
