  1. Great episode as usual. Just a small correction, Sagan was not a double starter in Rio, He just used the SVK quota for MTB. He actually had to fullfil the required minimum to qualfy in MTB before the games. In fact it was a bit more complicated situation, Slovakia earned 1 M quota in MTB (won by Martin Haring) but also earned only 1 quota in Road Race (won by Peter Sagan obviously) but since the road course was build more for climbers, Peter without realistic chances + without any teammates support just decided to gave up his place at the expense of someone else (so Patrik Tybor experienced by this his Olympic debut) and at the same time asked our federation for the opportunity to represent Slovakia in MTB, which is his favorite discipline and in which he began his successful career in junior years. The quota place was not for the name but for the country, So Peter had to win this SVK MTB quota in a internal qualification, He received the chance to try it in 3 races before the Olympics, where he achieved the necessary number of points to meet the required minimum for participation, and so he got the quota. and traveled to Rio where he started the race from the last 50 starting place at the start. Haring was given the opportunity to use the SVK quota in road cycling (won by Sagan) reciprocally without a fight (since he won our quota in the MTB) but he refused and left it to Patrik Tybor.

  5. Big Troubles in team... Last testing showed two more infected players William Wallinder and Albin Grewe (added to the already positive William Eklund and Karl Henriksson from past week) and three other members of the coaching staff, including the head coach Tomas Montén !!! The Swedish team is struggling with big coronavirus problem only three days before leaving for the world championship to Edmonton, Canada. So far, it is not even certain whether the defenders of the bronze medals will travel overseas to the championship at all !!! The Swedes temporarily disbanded the coaching team. Altogether with the head coach Montén, also his assistant Anders Lundberg and the video coach Adam Almqvist are all also positive. "Our situation is not looking good at the moment. We are in talks with the representatives of the International Hockey Federation and we regularly inform them about our condition. It is evolving from day to day, even from hour to hour. We are doing what we can, but the certainty that we will fly to Canada... we don't have it now yet, "said Johan Stark, Secretary General of the Swedish Hockey Association (SIF), for Aftonbladet https://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/hockey/a/6zP57L/ytterligare-covid-fall-i-juniorkronorna. Coach Montén even laughed at first after he was informed about his positive test. After a while, however, when he realized it is a sad fact... Now he will for sure go to stay in a 7-day quarantine in Sundsvall. "Are you kidding me? is it for real ?, or has someone exchanged my PCR test? I feel fine and now I have to stay in quarantine? A few days before departure to the overseas?", Montén said. "This is a completely new situation. We will also consider my distance coaching. But this is not just about me," he added. The general secretary of SIF did not rule out the option that the world championship will take place without one of the favorites - the swedish team. "There are several alternatives in the game. We have to remain responsible towards the players, coaches, but also our opponents and the IIHF. Of course, we are considering replacing more players and coaches. The management of Swedish hockey has already announced that it has called the captain of the under 18 national team, Anders Eriksen, to the team."

  7. and the first starts to sound loudly Jiří Prskavec the czech canoe Slalom K1 world champion already expressed his negative attitude towards the new Olympic event Kayak-Cross. according to him, the "extreme slalom" has not developed anywhere in the last four years "if there will be no extra quotas, the only athletes who will qualify will be obviously only canoe slalom specialists, the extreme slalom specialists who would be better in this will have to stay at home. So it will be just a sort of an extra discipline for us canoe slalomers, which we do not like or really practice." Since last weekend, our Olympic Committee has been registering our skiers to the races (and look how suddenly Žampa was flying ). however the organising committee of Jasná World Cup 2021 already received a notification from FIS to book the Friday as well, in case it is necessary that a canceled GS or SL race from this season could be hypothetically moved to Jasná

  17. Rene Fasel the Ober-fuhrer of IIHF and the organization Secretary General Horst Lichtner tested positive for the coronavirus. THUS They had to cancel the planned meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, with whom they were supposed to negotiate the organization of next year's World Championship in the country. "Last week, the IIHF was given the opportunity to meet with President Lukashenko to discuss many issues related to the 2021 World Championships to be held in Minsk, Belarus, and Riga, Latvia. However, during the pre-flight testing, we were informed that we had both positive tests for COVID-19, ”Fasel wrote on the IIHF's official website. The president added that he and Lichtner must undergo a 10 days quarantine, and since the federation's office will work remotely, he did not expect any more positive cases among employees. They postponed the meeting with the President of Belarus indefinitely as well as the planned Friday video conference with national associations on Friday. The organization of next year's World Cup has been threatened since Belarus has been in turmoil following the announcement of the results of the August presidential election, after which massive protests against the Lukashenko regime began in the country. He used tough measures against the protesters. Latvia, as the second host country, has publicly distanced itself from cooperation with Belarus since the disputed elections. On Monday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) excluded Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko from all Olympic activities, including next year's Tokyo Games.
