  1. Slovak Athlete of the Year 2020 nominations are out. Due Covid-19 pandemic this year is a bit different, several athletes and sports teams could not introduce themselves and compete, which is why this year is different. Instead of the traditional top 10, only the top 5 will be awarded. And instead of the top 3 sports teams, only one winning team will be awarded and announced. Athlete of the Year 2020 Nominations (In Alphabetical Order) Erik Černák (Ice Hockey) Erik "Drago" Černák the Košice born blueliner is among the nominated for the 1st time. 2015 U20 World Championship Bronze medalist is this years NHL Stanley Cup champion with Tampa Bay where he is despite his young age considered as one of the leaders of the defense which he proved with his ice times in the entire playoffs. Peter Sagan (Road Cycling) Peter is nominated for the 10th consecutive time !!! He is a 3 time winner (2013, 15 & 17) This year was defiitely not one of his most successful for sure, but he still managed some nice things sadly his seasons goal the Green Jersey remained unfulfilled. However his stage win at the Giro was certainly epic and now he is a fresh member of a all 3 Top Tour stages winner club. Matej Tóth (Athletics) Matej the 2016 Winner is nominated for the 6th time. In a very difficult year for Race Walking he never gave up, continued hard training and despite endless problems with canceling the races, he persevered and managed to create the world best performance of the year in a single race of the whole season and qualified for the Olympics. EAA also awarded him by title of European athlete of the month of October. Petra Vlhová (Alpine Skiing) The only female in the Top 5 and definitely our biggest sport star nowadays is the reigning champion of this award from 2019, her only triumph so far from the 5 nominations. This whole 2020 year believe it or not, She is the only skier to won WC Slalom races so far. She won 2 small crystal globes for Slalom and Parallels last season, this season she already won 3 more WC races. Ján Volko (Athletics) Our sprinter "Johnny" Volko is nominated for the 3rd time, his both previous nominations finished by 4th places (2017 & 19). sadly this year he could not really compete and defend his indoor ECH title, however he still showed some good races like in the Diamond Legue in Bruxelles where he was 3rd n 200m. We already know the 6th-8h Places 6. Martin Dúbravka (Football) 7. Andrej Sekera (Ice Hockey) 8. Ivona Fialková (Biathlon) The Winners will be announced in a "special-Covid-19" Gala the 16th december evening in our public TV. Former Athlete of the Year winners Former Team of the Year winners
  2. Why ? There still 31 Women races remaining this season, I really dont get how te overall WC should be already decided with all DH and SG still to be raced and Mikaela can perfectly win all the GS or SL until the end of the season
  3. OFFICIALS The list of game officials for the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship was released today by the IIHF. With the World Juniors being played in a “competition bubble”, the IIHF Officiating Committee has selected game officials that currently residing within the host country Canada. The decision to use only Canadian-based officials was made based due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on travel restrictions in the individual countries, as well as the existing health and safety regulations in Canada. Referees Linesmen BLOSKI, Adam BRUNELLE, Guillaume CAMPBELL, Michael CEKO, Matt GARON, Alexandre CHAPUT, Maxime GOUIN, Olivier DESCHAMPS, Jonathan KOWALSKI, Kyle FOSTER, Deion LABONTE, Guillaume HARRIS, Adam LANGIN, Mike MACKEY, Brett LAWRENCE, Fraser MAHONEY, Kelsey MAILLE, Kevin MANNELLA, Matthew MENNITI, Mathieu O'QUINN, Ben PEARCE, Mark VANOOSTEN, Nathan ROELAND, Brett WYONZEK, Tarrington SANDLAK, Carter - STEWART, Tyson -
  4. Mikaela Shiffrin will skip also St. Moritz, she announced it today
  5. Some hard core revolution happened today in Slovakia. The Slovak Ski Association is not anymore a National sport federation. The Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic takes away the status of the national sports association from the Slovak Ski Association (SLA). Following an agreement with the International Ski Federation (FIS), the state moved the whole movement, which brings together several disciplines, temporarily under the Slovak Olympic Committee (SOŠV). Based on this, also our skier Petra Vlhová should continue undisturbed in the started season of the World Cup. but will not represent the Slovak Ski Association but the Slovak Olympic Committee. The patronage of SOŠV should apply not only to the Alpine Skiers, but also to other sections and their representatives, Cross-Country Skierss, Freestyle Skiers, snowboarders, Ski Jumpers or atletes in the Nordic combined and grass skiing. this reaction from the state and the olympic committee came right after 46 sports clubs with 1,317 members !!! (almost all our skiing clubs), including Petra Vlhová, basically the whole Alpine Skiers and other representatives from ski jumping to cross-country skiing, decided to leave the association today. Five of the six members of the general assembly also resigned everyone has enough of the current leadership under the Italian Marino Mersich (an extremely controversial character) who is behind our ski association for 12 years now (even if he was successfully kicked out a couple of years ago he still under some strange circumstances was able to place at highest posts of the federation his people and under which the Slovak skiing has completely disappeared, Ski Jumpinh and Nordic Combined does not exist anymore Cross-Country is barely living and behind Petra there a big hole also in the alpine skiing. More here in slovak https://sport.aktuality.sk/c/472080/revolucia-v-slovenskom-lyzovani-petra-vlhova-a-dalsi-pretekari-opustaju-sla/ Reaction of the State https://sport.aktuality.sk/c/472099/ministerstvo-skolstva-odobralo-sla-statut-sportoveho-zvazu/ and the Ski federation attacked back saying that nobody can take away anything from them and they are the only eligible representatives of all Skiing sports in Slovakia and in all FIS events, and whoever want to step out from the federation will have to return all the fnancial support they get and also return all the assets they have borrowed from the SLA. Sort of slovak stop the count ! We won ! https://sport.aktuality.sk/c/472122/reakcia-sla-na-aktualnu-situaciu-vlhova-je-nadalej-clenkou-tvrdenia-sa-nezakladaju-na-pravde/
