  1. Wow, 6:45.73 for Esmee Visser in a training race in Calgary, that's the 5th fastest time in history
  2. Which is why I'm saying Finland is slowly getting back. They were entirely invisible for a while, but in recent months they're starting to be a bit more visible again. Come on, Antti Aalto is even 20th in the World Cup standings. Sure, for Finland's history it's not much, but since Koivuranta (19th in 2014, 18th in 2012) was the last one in the top-20 since Hautamäki finishing 8th in 2011, it's definitely a step forward compared to the last few years. They even have four guys scoring World Cup points this season, which didn't happen in the previous three years. So no, they are lightyears away from where they once were, but yeah, they are improving compared to the last 2-3 years.
  3. Jaqueline Mourão won't compete in the 10km classic, despite finishing 2nd in the qualifying race. This was apparently perfectly planned, she's in fact already back in Brazil. Nicely done, taking away a place from teenage Argentinian Catalina Gonzalez, who finished 11th and so didn't qualify, despite Brazil already knowing Mourão wouldn't compete in the 10k even if she qualified. Ugh.
  4. Two-time reigning champion and second placed Jacqueline Lölling skipped the two races in Calgary and so her chance at a third consecutive title, due to family reasons
  5. And they are (slowly) coming back, ski jumping is going up in terms of quality.
  6. No, it was a total shock. Much like Johaug winning the skiathlon, nobody saw it coming. Insane.
  7. But Mongolia was/is not competing in the OECH
  8. Kyrgyzstan, come on. Brazil wouldn't have finished last
  9. And Ammann's comment "I just realized he started jumping because of me when he was young, and I felt a bit guilty when he didn't really make that next step...and now he does this!"
  10. Always a big shame when athletes don't have their equipment in order
  11. What the Norwegian CC coaches aren't doing: believing in an Olympic champion
  12. Again https://www.ibsf.org/en/component/events/event/193248
  13. The other side of a stadium like this...it's so freaking awesome when it's full (and you're in the middle of those thousands of people ), but it looks a bit sad now.
  14. Wow, 37.62 for allrounder Miho Takagi With that, she passed Anni Friesinger and Ireen Wüst and moves up to 3rd on the Adelskalendern (the all-time allround ranking) Only Martina Sablikova and Cindy Klassen to go.
  15. Mad thing is, for the first time while searching for a song, I actually managed to come across some half-decent songs by artists I had never heard about
  16. Maria Victoria Rodriguez of Argentina was going pretty well, but lost control in the last turn. Still, nice to see she is present
  17. Winning time of the 5km C: 15:57 minutes --> 18.8 km/h Speed needed to be 7 minutes faster (8:57): 33.5 km/h That is 0.6 km/h faster than the average speed of the winner in the men's sprint freestyle qualifying. Saying Johaug can keep that pace for 5km, in classic style, is arguably pretty much worse than saying some not so smart predictions about Nordic combined, which was not even his sport, unlike XC
