  1. Fantastic 6:07 for Loubinaud in the B division Great fight in the A division as well, with Roest eventually taking the win against Ghiotto, and Bloemen in 3rd after an insanely fast start.
  2. Yesterday once again we saw the ridiculousness of the mixed relay, at least in it's current format. A real 'circus event' that just can not be taken seriously, definitely not if it's all based on time and you've simply got to be lucky to be in a good heat. They should either do it based on time, in which case it should be the regular pairs format (but then it just really adds nothing at all), or keep it in the current heats format, in which case it should be done based on positions (and so have QF's to a final). That seems unlikely, because it'll add two more races and top athletes will skip the event even more, like they already do now (yesterday the podium looked super 'weird' because most top skaters didn't bother competing). In other words, just accept that the mixed relay is not a thing for speed skating and let it go.
  3. Thanks, I guess some stuff was lost in translation It's a real shame he finished his season though, with all of the highlights and chances for fast times still to come.
  4. Especially a 13-year old, I'd even say But since I assume he wants to eventually be a pro player, he does need to learn that you can't do this, no matter how clear the umpire mistake was. At least controlling your temper to some basic extent is part of being a professional as well. And yes, I know Nick Kyrgios will not give this post a 'Like'
  5. With a gap this big, it even has a big shot at the top senior level. He was more than an entire straight ahead of them, they actually could not see him anymore when leaving the turn.
  6. Proof that the event actually happened....if only we could have actually seen it.
  7. Yeah, Huber was just not allowed to go for it I guess, he basically had that in the bag if he were allowed to keep going
  8. Lots of talk about Gao Tingyu in the Netherlands, apparently he....kind of retired, out of nowhere? They're saying he competed in the 'China Games' recently, and then kind of retired, possibly. This has led me to a question for @Vic Liu, about the Chinese Games. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Winter_Games_of_China According to that link, the 2020 edition was postponed to 2024 due to COVID and are scheduled to be held next month. Fine, clear enough, but...what are these 'China Games' our commentators keep talking about in regards to Gao Tingyu (which I assume they got from Jan Bos, the coach of the Chinese team and for sure in touch with the Dutch commentators every now and then)? Is this something else than the National Winter Games of China, or are the February dates on Wikipedia wrong and has it already been held this month? Edit: I believe I am reading the whole page wrong The February dates are 2020, and it says it was postponed to 2024 without a date mentioned.
  9. Sinner beating Djokovic What a fantastic match by him, very well deserved finalist
  10. It's how I've been watching most short track World Cups Won't need it for Astana athletics though, that'll be on TV here (Ziggo Sport), presumably even with my favourite athletics (and cross-country skiing) commentator for extra fun.
  11. Somewhat surprising 1-2 for the Dutch in the girl's mass start today. I mean, Daleman was going to win this and any challenge to that would be kind of surprising, but I had definitely not expected Jasmijn Veenhuis to be on the podium. Very nice for her, I genuinely wondered why they picked her and not Mette ten Cate for the event though - Ten Cate is from 2008, so younger than Veenhuis, but won the 500m, 1000m, 1500m and 3000m (and got mass start bronze, where Veenhuis finished 9th) at the Dutch junior championships two weeks ago, well ahead of Veenhuis every single time. Meanwhile Sonnekalb of course won the men's mass start, but it was a nice sprint for the medals.
  12. Too lazy to go back to the stream, but did they originally qualify for the final? They're kind of like the exact opposite of the Dutch team: Sonnekalb is definitely the most talented of all the guys in the Gangwon speed skating, whereas he didn't really have an equal female with him, while the Dutch have Daleman as definitely the most talented of all the girls in Gangwon, but she didn't really have an equal male with her Korea surprised me somewhat, but China winning this mixed relay was almost impossible not to happen, Liu is very much in the high end of girls in Gangwon, and Pan is just fantastic
  13. I would absolutely have gotten Jaque, yes Hirano, definitely not.
  14. Has anyone else noticed a problem with the schedule on the website? https://www.worldaquatics-doha2024.com/en/schedules It shows only one single final on the first day: But according to Wikipedia (I know, but still), there should be 4 finals on that day. Even if that's wrong, surely an evening session consisting of the 400m freestyle final and 100m butterfly semis and nothing else seems....wrong?
  15. Yeah, I generally watch every single World Cup event (plus European, Four Continents and world championships), and there's indeed often quite a bit of pushing, but usually this much definitely gets punished. She really got away very well
  16. Here the crazies just go yelling that WEF is the source of all problems and in every conspiracy they can think of, from 9/11 to vaccines, they simply yell 'WEF!' a few times and that's their argument why WEF is bad
  17. I mean, technically speaking it's a list of people....but does one really want to belong to that list? Only Kim Jong-un and Putin are missing
  18. Wait, meanwhile the Dutch U18 women are playing a world championships, apparently in the Netherlands? They even got bronze there I'm reading, so I guess most of the potential Gangwon girls are there....but that's just weird scheduling Anyhow, according to what I'd say is the Dutch federation's website the Dutch girls lost their first match 1-6 to....Austria. They might want to check up on their English and flag knowledge https://www.ijshockeynederland.nl/nieuws/eerste-wedstrijd-jeugd-olympische-spelen-verloren
  19. I wonder if this is even the B team instead of like a Z team, but I have no idea....it's not like this is mentioned anywhere here unfortunately We have a bright future though, as hockey legend Naomi van As and speed skating legend Sven Kramer have a daughter (October 2018) and a son (August 2022), so they should be right there at the top when the ice hockey mixed doubles event is in the Olympics
  20. Kang pushed the other Polish girl out of silver medal position in the last turn, but jury didn't dare to penalize her at home
  21. I had missed that, but Brailsford leaving cycling is already the best cycling news of the year, even though the best time for him to leave was the day he entered the world of cycling.
  22. Finally a good day for Angel Daleman Generic English commentator was all surprised and sounded shocked even ("the very last skater, wow!!" ), despite...you know, Daleman being the youngest junior (yes, junior, not youth) world champion ever and skating with the seniors already this season, being the big favourite for today
  23. Is there any way to know who scored the goals in ice hockey? Strangely even the official reports don't seem to show anything else than the fact that a goal has been made..
  24. Yeah, that stage win was something else! Classic example of what in Dutch one would call 'turbodijen': turbo thighs, meaning someone isn't even really attacking/sprinting away, but just overpowers the entire peloton on raw pace, which is insane for such a young rider (and awesome considering it's a whole new country!)
  25. Yeah, Vlhova may not be there today, the fans most certainly are, and only real fans come out even when the hero isn't there Great job for Jasna, looking forward to the crazy scenes at Vlhova's comeback next year
